‘Color Me Obsessed: A Film About The Replacements’ coming to DVD this fall

After making the rounds at film festivals and receiving art-house screenings over the past year, director Gorman Bechard’s documentary about The Replacements and their rabid fans — a film dubbed, appropriately, “Color Me Obsessed” — comes to DVD this fall in a two-disc set packed with six hours of extras, MVD Entertainment Group announced today.

“Color Me Obsessed,” to be released Nov. 20, is the product of more than 140 interviews, a documentary billed as “the potentially true story of the most influential, always drunk, self-destructive, and yet frighteningly brilliant rock band of all time as told through the eyes of their fans, followers and fellow musicians.”

In the announcement of the DVD release, Bechard explains that he took a unique approach:

“I decided to present the band in a more iconic way. I thought, people believe in God without seeing or hearing him but rather through the passion, faith, and stories of others. After watching ‘Color Me Obsessed,’ I’m pretty sure music fans will believe in The Replacements in much the same way.”

Among those interviewed for the doc: Grant Hart and Greg Norton of Hüsker Dü, Tommy Ramone, Colin Meloy of The Decemberists, Craig Finn of The Hold Steady, the Goo Goo Dolls and more.

The bonus material includes:

  • Nineteen deleted scenes
  • Three complete interviews (Grant Hart, Robert Christgau, Greg Kot & Jim DeRogitis)
  • Behind the scenes interviews with director and producer (Hansi Oppenheimer)
  • Two commentaries
  • Four trailers

Below, check out a new trailer for the DVD release.

They were the best. Great movie, can’t wait. Get better slim

  2. “Pleased to Meet Me” is brilliant! My opinion their best. Saw them on the Don’t tell a soul tour and their final show. No doubt a great band, but must admit I never caught this obsession about them or care for their early/late albums.
