Midge Ure announces U.S. solo tour, hopes to ‘pave the way’ for Ultravox later in 2013

Ultravox frontman Midge Ure today announced a rare North American solo tour that’s set to take place this coming January — featuring, “so far,” 12 dates confirmed across the U.S. and a single Canadian concert —that he says “is to pave the way for the possibility of bringing Ultravox over later in the year.”

The trek, which Ure announced on his Facebook page, opens Jan. 9 in New York City and currently wraps up Jan. 26 in Los Angeles. It’s not clear how many more shows will be added to the itinerary, which you can check out below. The singer implores his fans, “Please spread the word, it’s a long way to come and play to 3 people and a dog.”

The reunited ’80s-era lineup of Ultravox — featuring Ure, Billy CurrieChris Cross and Warren Cann — this year released a comeback album called Brilliant, the first new album from that lineup in nearly three decades. The band just finished a U.K. tour, and is now in the midst of a run of European dates that will keep the group on the road through early November.

  1. have seen midge a good number of times in concert… always great… sad to hear he’s coming nowhere near where I live…

bring ultravox though and I’ll travel to wherever it takes!

  2. Being an ex-pat, its been nearly 20 yrs since last seeing him live and beyond that with the band. Great news for the new year in Milwaukee,WI. Counting down the days!

  3. I saw him solo with Hojo in 89. GREAT show, plenty of Ultravox played, too. Now.. will he be playing a nice assortment of the band’s catalog plus his solo material? I will travel for Ultravox. He really needs some PNW dates! Nothing near or in PDX.
