  1. Well played! So excited to have new blood on Dark Wave. Great list!

Might “Martyr” be the newest song ever played on 1st Wave?

    • The newest song I ever heard on 1st Wave was Sarah Fimm’s Invisible Satellites from 2011. They played that song in 2011 as well, so it was very new at the time they played it.

  2. This just made my weekend that started off with Morrissey Friday night in NYC. Thanks so much for posting this.

  3. Notch Johnson

Great playlist! Live the inclusion of Red Lorry Yellow Lorry.

  4. I wish it were me hosting that show. But since it isn’t, I am glad it is you. Much more diverse playlist. How about some of the other great Factory Records bands: Section 25, The Wake, The Names, Durutti Column, Minny Pops, and Crispy Ambulance to name a few… and maybe some Danse Society.

  5. You’re doing a great job on DarkWave.

  6. I loved last night’s playlist. My only problem is I forget it’s on because it’s right in the middle of me getting my boy bathed and his night time routine. Last night, I laid on my bed with a book and listened after I put him to bed.

    Great job!

  7. Fantastic playlist! Great to see Asylum Party and Fra Lippo Lippi make their debuts!

Concur with the Factory request: The Names, Crispy Ambulance, Durutti Column, The Wake, Stockholm Monsters, Minny Pops, A Certain Ratio!

Plus Abecedarians, For Against, The Sound, Sad Lovers And Giants, Comsat Angels, Felt, Salvation, New Model Army…too many to name but this show is a MUCH needed shot in the arm!

    Thanks for digging deep!

  8. Wait, why are these shows not archived?

  9. Great set, especially Martyr and Ornaments of gold!

  10. Sean, if you have SiriusXM’s online option you can listen to the last two shows in the On Demand section of the site. It is archived there. Here is the link but I imagine you would have to be logged into the site for it to work right: https://www.siriusxm.com/player/#view=show&showId=934&showType=upComing&channelId=firstwave

  11. Outstanding playlist yet again! Dont get me wrong, I love Swedish Egil’s broadcasts in the Dark Wave past, BUT you have upped the bar and are really delivering more than ever! Thanks!!!

  12. Sean/Rob: I do record these broadcasts and save in MP3 format, but not sure if it is appropriate to share them online with a link posted here due to potential copyright issues and all. Any ideas on this, Matt?

  13. Thank you for the kind words, and the requests — keep them coming.

And yes, as Rob mentioned, the ‘Dark Wave’ shows are now being archived, at least for a short period, on Sirius XM’s new On Demand service for those of you who are online subscribers.

Aside from that, I can’t condone or facilitate any taping or posting of links to recordings of the show on this site. Hope you’ll understand.

    Thanks…

  14. Thanks for the info, Matt! Nice that Sirius now has an On-Demand service. Will have to check it out!

  15. Love ‘Dark Wave’…my only complaint is that there isn’t a sole ‘Dark Wave’ station! Sunday nights I’m usually out of the car and immersed in ‘Dexter’ and ‘Homeland’ but if I’m ever out on a Sunday night I’m glued to the stereo…Keep up the great work!

  16. And love the ‘Balaam and The Angel’ and ‘Concrete Blonde’ inclusion. I think it’d be awesome to hear Gene Love Jezebel’s ‘Upstairs’, The Bolshoi’s ‘Please’ and Alien Sex Fiend’s ‘Now I’m Feeling Zombified’…any chance they’ll do a special Dark Wave on Halloween?
