Kevin Shields: My Bloody Valentine to release ‘Loveless’ follow-up by end of year

It was shocking enough when the long-delayed reissues of My Bloody Valentine’s two studio albums finally were released earlier this year, but now frontman Kevin Shields claims he’ll release the 21-year-in-the-making follow-up to the 1991 classic Loveless by the end of the year — and will follow that up with an EP of even newer music.

Shields announced the release to the NME, saying the new album will be available through his website by year’s end. He promised that fans of Loveless won’t be let down:

“I think with this record, people who like us will immediately connect with something. Based on the very, very few people who’ve heard stuff — some engineers, the band, and that’s about it — some people think it’s stranger than Loveless. I don’t. I feel like it really frees us up, and in the bigger picture it’s 100 percent necessary.”

The NME also reports that MBV will headline the Tokyo Rocks festival next May, which will come three months after the band plays a trio of Japanese dates. After those concerts in Japan, Shields and Co. are due to headline All Tomorrow’s Parties’ I’ll Be Your Mirror Melbourne.

My Bloody Valentine tour dates:

Feb. 6: The Hatch, Osaka, Japan
Feb. 7: Studio Coast, Tokyo, Japan
Feb. 8: Studio Coast, Tokyo, Japan
Feb. 16-17: ATP’s I’ll Be Your Mirror, Melbourne, Australia
May TBA: Tokyo Rocks, Japan

  4. yeah right
I wonder if the corrected reissues will ever come out in the US??? The imports have a couple of glitches on them.

  5. “by the end of the year” It’s November 7! Where’s the release date? – It’s all a hoax or there would be a concrete date set already.

And “by years end”, he really means sometime 10 years from now

  7. His full response isn’t quoted above. Kevin says he’s going to release it online as a download just to get it out of the way so he can move forward. In that light, it could appear at any time.
