Readers Poll 2012: Vote for best new albums, singles, reissues, box sets, live acts

All right, we’re a little behind schedule this year, but, as the saying goes, better late than never. That’s right, it’s time to throw down your picks in the third-annual Slicing Up Eyeballs Readers Poll, which will crown 2012’s best new and reissued music, as well as the top live performances, from veterans of the ’80s alternative scene.

So here’s the drill: As is our custom, we’re limiting the poll to artists from the ’80s alternative era and their offshoots, given this site’s narrowly defined niche. That means that while there’s no stopping anyone from voting for, say, Channel Orange or Blunderbuss as album of the year — and as the last two years’ voting proved, that will still happen — it’s just not going to count.

We’ve expanded the poll from last year’s four categories to five total:

1.) Best new album of the year
2.) Best single or track of the year
3.) Best reissue of the year
4.) Best compilation, box set or live album of the year
5.) Best live act of the year

In the form below, you can vote for up to five entries in each category, and they are not ranked. Each vote will be weighted equally. This year, in an effort to avoid suggesting results, we’re not including a list of qualifying albums or songs. However, if you’re looking to jog your memory, peruse the past year’s weekly Record Rack new-release posts — which are by no means comprehensive, and you certainly may vote for records not previously covered on this site.

Plus, check out the results from the 2010 and 2011 readers polls.

Finally, if you’d like to offer some remarks about your favorite releases of 2012, you may do so in the comments below; you don’t need to replicate your ballot, but if you’d like to explain what’s so great about your top picks, we may use some of those reader comments when posting the final results later in December. We’d certainly love to hear from you.

DEADLINE: Voting will be open through 12 a.m. Eastern on Saturday, Dec. 15.
