Living Colour celebrating 25th anniversary of ‘Vivid’ with new reissue, tour

Genre-straddling hard rockers Living Colour will celebrate the 25th anniversary of their hit debut album Vivid with a new reissue and a tour centered around the 1988 album, with initial European dates in the Netherlands, France, Switzerland, Austria and Germany already announced for mid-March.

Aside from promising that more dates will be added to the upcoming tour, the band — featuring original members Corey Glover, Vernon Reid and Will Calhoun, plus Stain-era addition Doug Wimbish — has not officially announced its full 25th anniversary plans.

But in a recent interview with The Trentonian newspaper in New Jersey, Glover reveals that 2013 will be a busy year for Living Colour: “There are plans for a new record, we’re re-releasing Vivid, it’s the 25th anniversary of the record and we’re planning to tour and do just Vivid songs; we’re going to do the album in its entirety.”

When Vivid was released in 1988, an all-black hard-rock/metal act was seen as something of an aberration, and the band initially gained traction on alternative radio before scoring an MTV hit with “Cult of Personality.” The album also spawned the singles “Glamour Boys” and “Funny Vibe,” and featured a cover of Talking Heads’ “Memories Can’t Wait” — and it helped land the band a slot on the inaugural Lollapalooza tour in 1991.

Living Colour disbanded in 1995, but reunited five years later.

Living Colour Vivid tour dates:

March 10: ECI Cultuurfabriek, Roermond, NL
March 11: Melkweg, Amsterdam, NL
March 13: New Morning, Paris, France
March 15: Z7, Pratteln, Switzerland
March 17: Komma, Innsbruck, Austria
March 20: Huxleys Neue Welt, Berlin, Germany

  1. According to their websites and social media outlets, there are more dates to follow…

  2. that whole album was cool, but “Cult of Personality” really crushed everything around it that year. look back at the top-selling artists of 1988 — Tiffany, George Michael, the Dirty Dancing soundtrack, with pop-metal acts like Van Hagar, Bon Jovi and Def Leppard still ruling MTV — Living Colour put a refreshing spin on things. and man, Vernon Reid, “the walking guitar riff”! good times — i’ll see this tour if they show up around here!

  3. I’m looking forward to this reissue. I fell in love with “Middle Man” in ’88 when it was the first track worked. I was very happy that the label stuck with the album and finally had a hit in ’89 with “Cult Of Personality.”

  4. Would be awesome if WWE booked Living Colour to play “Cult of Personality” live for CM Punk’s entrance at this year’s WrestleMania!
