The Replacements raise more than $100,000 for Slim Dunlap with reunion EP auction

The Replacements — namely Paul Westerberg, Tommy Stinson and Chris Mars — raised more than $100,000 to help pay medical expenses for their ailing former bandmate Slim Dunlap through the just-completed 10-day auction of 250 limited-edition, 10-inch vinyl copies of the band’s 5-song reunion EP.

Three hours before the last auctions ended Friday night, the Facebook page for the “Songs For Slim” project reported that sales tally had just hit $100,000. A final total has not yet been released, but a quick perusal of the auction pages on eBay show that the bulk of the 250 autographed EPs sold in the $300 range, with a few lower-numbered records going for upwards of $1,000 and copy No. 1 selling for $10,000 with 20 bids.

The Songs for Slim benefit/reunion EP is billed as the first new release from the ‘Mats since 1990′s All Shook Down and features four covers recorded by Westerberg and Stinson, and one from Mars on his own. The songs are expected to be sold digitally following the auctions, and a commercial 12-inch is expected later this spring (see full tracklist).

Dunlap, the band’s latter-era guitarist, suffered a debilitating stroke last year.

UPDATE: The total amount raised has been announced as $105,743.42.
