Morrissey reschedules, expands U.S. tour — will be on road at same time as Johnny Marr

Morrissey

Morrissey today announced rescheduled dates on his trouble-stricken North American tour, adding shows in Hollywood, Philadelphia and Richmond, Va., on a tour that will now keep him on the road through late April — which means he’ll be touring the U.S. at the same time as his former bandmate Johnny Marr.

Moz’s tour — derailed while the former Smiths frontman underwent treatment for a bleeding ulcer and Barrett’s esophagus — now resumes with a previously announced “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” taping on Tuesday (or not), followed by 27 shows, including a sold-out Los Angeles arena concert with Patti Smith.

Tickets for the new shows, plus a San Francisco date that has been moved from Davies Symphony Hall to The Warfield, go on sale Friday.

The new dates put Morrissey and Marr on the road at the same time for a two-week period at the end of April, although the former bandmates are never in the same city on the same night; the closest they come is playing Denver five nights apart.

Morrissey postponed 19 concerts since falling ill Jan. 24 on his lengthy North American tour that already had been rescheduled since last fall, when he abruptly canceled the bulk of the dates to return to England to see his sick mother. So far, none of those shows have been rescheduled, although Moz has promised to do so with all but the Flint, Mich., concert.

  1. I was kind of worried he might re-schedule his Lincoln, NE show on the same date as Johnny’s Omaha, NE show, out of spite —but my younger brother reminded me that they are now on speaking terms.
