The Call reunites after 20 years with BRMC’s Robert Been filling in for late father

The Call

The Call — best known for their ’80s radio hits “The Walls Came Down,” “I Still Believe” and “Let the Day Begin” — will reunite this spring for their first concerts in more than 20 years, with Robert Levon Been of Black Rebel Motorcycle Club filling in for his late father Michael Been, who died of a heart attack in 2010 while on tour with BRMC.

Original members Scott Musick, Tom Ferrier and Jim Goodwin will be joined by Robert Levon Been on bass and vocals at concerts on April 18 and 19 in San Francisco and Los Angeles, the band announced today. It’s not known whether any additional performances or new music are planned.

Last month, BRMC released a cover of The Call’s 1989 single “Let the Day Begin,” which you can hear below, and see the original video. Michael Been died while on tour with BRMC; he had produced the band’s then-current album, Beat the Devil’s Tattoo, and was serving as the group’s sound engineer.

Tickets for the two reunion concerts go on sale Friday via www.the-call-band.com.

The Call tour dates:

Holy crap– I had no idea Michael Been died in 2010. I saw him on tour with Harry Dean Stanton in 1988; they played together after they both appeared in Martin Scorsese’s THE LAST TEMPTATION OF CHRIST.

  2. Morrissey’s “Glamorous Glue” sounds an awful lot like this, no?

  3. I really really want to love BRMC given comparisons to the Mary Chain but I’m just not feeling it. I like but not love.
