Peter Murphy to play all-Bauhaus concerts in U.S. to mark band’s 35th anniversary

Bauhaus

It’s yet to be officially announced, but Peter Murphy will return to the U.S. this spring for what appears to be a full tour called “Peter Murphy Celebrates 35 Years of Bauhaus,” which will find the band’s former frontman performing concerts comprised solely of Bauhaus material.

So far, ticketing and venue sites confirm Murphy will play all-Bauhaus shows in at least four cities in Texas, Florida and Illinois in late April and early May (see dates below) — while a San Diego-area concert is also confirmed for late July, but it’s not clear whether that’s part of the Bauhaus anniversary trek.

A number of Mexican websites also report that Murphy will play the FMX Festival de Mexico on May 18.

Murphy, who has toured the U.S. multiple times since the release of his 2011 album Ninth, last December performed an all-Bauhaus set at a pair of one-off year-end shows in Santa Ana, Calif., which also included a concert dedicated to a rare full performance of his 1989 album Deep.

Murphy and the rest of Bauhaus reunited for several tours between 1998 and 2006, but the band imploded for what appears to be a final time during the recording of Go Away White, its fifth album, which was released in 2008 and was the group’s first in 23 years.

UPDATE 3/6/13:  Peter Murphy this evening formally announced the Mr. Moonlight Tour: Celebrating 35 Years of Bauhaus, which will take him to North America and Europe this year. See full dates below.

In a news release, Murphy says, “Since 2006, I have included my Bauhaus work into my solo work as a way of tipping my hat to my own audience…those who discovered my early work as well as new and old fans of those years strong wishes to hear the music of my band crackle and spark in the live arena. Being the foremost advocate of this Bauhaus work, I decided the time was ripe to at last give a pure Bauhaus experience in one Mr. Moonlight world tour. Mr. Moonlight is alive and well, don’t doubt it.”

glad to say i have seen Bauhaus play NYC years ago.

  2. I would rather see the entire DEEP album show!!

    6 dates only?
Anyways, how about Bauhaus tour instead and play tunes off “Go Away White” ?

  4. Bauhaus will never reform. Which is a shame. I saw in an interview with Peter which he stated he is on good terms with Ash & the Haskins Bros.

  5. I hope he plays classic Bauhaus and not the horrid “Go away white”.

  6. He should just get Daniel, David and Kevin and do the tour properly.

  7. hopefully he adds a more Philly-centric spot to the tour…though the 650 capacity mr Smalls Theater sounds kinda cool, albeit too far to travel to..

  8. Houston, TX April 26th, Numbers

  9. …and Peter delivers. Philly awaits.

  10. Saw P.M four times last year and LOVE him solo, but Bauhaus IS NOT BAUHAUS without Danny, David J. -and- Kevin. When he randomly sang Bauhaus songs last year they SUCKED! I DON’T KNOW WHAT P.M. IS THINKING BUT THIS JUST BLOWS! WHATEVA’ MR. MOONLIGHT … Knock yourself out …

  11. The Boise ID venue holds like 100 people…..very small

  12. I saw P.M. at several shows while he toured last year and he inter-mingled Bauhaus songs with his own solo songs. Now P.M. is great as P.M. singing his solo songs, but he is a MAJOR HYPOCRITE doing this cuz he said approximately twenty years ago that he would never play/sing any Bauhaus songs again cuz it was something he was trying to get away from -and- now he’s cashing in on it. He even protested at a S.F. concert that ‘there’s no goth movement here and I have NOTHING to do with it.’ The S.F. Chronicle review said that he protested too much when he said: ‘This goth thing is in the audience’s mind, not mine. I am not part of any goth movement.’ Now he’s ALL about being The Gothfather (puh-leaze). At some venues barely 75 people were in attendance. This should be very interesting – we shall see!?!

  13. I need to clarify my prior comment. When P.M. was protesting the ‘whole goth movement thing’ and said ‘it’s in the audience’s mind,’ and that he would not sing any Bauhaus songs’ that was approximately 20 years ago. Now he’s being a total hypocrite, not to mention ass for badmouthing Daniel, David J. and Kevin Haskins all the time! P.M. has been touring NINTH non-stop since 2011; I highly doubt he’s hurting. AND not to mention his overpriced meet and greets! Times are hard for a lot of Americans right now, he should be grateful people pay for a concert ticket to go see him. OH AND ENOUGH OF THE ‘I AM SO MAHVELOUS DAHLING’ TALK, yes we ALL know how much you love yourself!

  14. One last clarification to the comment regarding the amount of people in attendance at some shows being 75, that pertained to P.M.’s tour of 2012. As most people who follow him know he toured non-stop last year, as well as the year of 2011. From someone who has went to his shows since 1990, it’s sad to see how greedy he has become. He USED TO stand outside his bus and chat with his followers, sign autographs and take pictures for free – that was in the 90’s – when he was grateful for peeps to come see him -AND- he would fill up big venues, now fast-forward and he barely can fill up a small club. Like I said, he needs to appreciate his fans and ALSO be less stuck up, quit bad-mouthing his ex-mates, and just be more humble. Being a snob is a big TURN OFF.

  15. Interesting comments indeed, but i too recall him protesting the goth thang in N.Y. as people would scream out for him to do a Bauhaus song and he would get mad. Now he says THAT HE CARRIES THE BAUHAUS FLAG – WTF? It no doubt will be interesting to see how this MR. MOONLIGHT TOUR is going to turn out as Bauhaus IS NOT Bauhaus w/o the other three original members. I will not be going, saw em in 1998 and it was amazing! Saw him and his new band play the songs last year and the spark was not there, not to mention the songs/sound just sucked!

  16. When Peter Murphy talks in interviews and says that ‘he.s one in a million, mah-ve-lous, a trickster, etc.,’ this MR. MOONLIGHT tour truly is the icing on the cake. This is, by far, one of the most hypocritical things he has ever stooped to. He needs to remember that people who attended his shows in the 90’s, read interviews that were in various mags and watched television interviews through the past 35 years know that he.s full of B/S cuz back in his humble days he never wanted anything to do with Bauhaus. And YES he would get irritated at concerts when people would yell out for him to sing ‘Bela Lugosi.s Dead’ or ‘Kick In The Eye.’ IDK if he realizes that people who are on the East Coast have friends in the West Coast and after concerts would share stories, and vice-versa re people throughout the States, but if he thinks he.s such a trickster I would say that he is a bafoon for doing this AND not to mention the horrible things he.s been saying about David J., Kevin H. and occassionally Daniel. THEY DON.T PUBLICLY TALK SMACK ON HIM SO HE SHOULD GROW UP AND KNOCK IT OFF! Get back to your humble roots and maybe your dream of filling stadiums/arenas, which you literally say in every interview you give this present day, just may happen for you Mr. Moonlight. But seriously, you should just stick with your solo work. You have great songs and when you do Bauhaus songs it is just wrong and takes away from your character cuz of the things you have said in the past, not to mention they sound like shit!

  17. What I want to know is how did someone go from pure baldness in the back to a full head of hair? Yes I know it’s a toupee, but just shave off what is left and be bald. Your head is by far one of the most elegantly shaped heads out there. As John Lennon said: “Let It Be”, OH and I too don.t think this Mr. Moonlight tour is a good idea. Bauhaus only crackled and sparked with the four ORIGINAL MEMBERS, you may be the lead singer but the other three bandmates each contributed and made Bauhaus what it was. Doing this is an injustice. Stick to your work, it sales, it works and it’s you, but unless the other three are on board I concur with the other comments – THE SONGS SUCK!

Stick to your solo songs, they sale, they are classic and it’s you, but unless the other three are on board for a Bauhaus tour then I concur with the other comments – THE SONGS SUCK WITH YOU SINGING AND YOUR BAND MAKING UP FOR THE TALENTED AND MISSING ORIGINAL THREE. Good luck, you just may need it!

  19. You are a touring machine as u have been touring non-stop since 2011. I saw u five times last year and have to say that when u sing the Bauhaus songs it takes away that missing something from ur solo songs. It’s affecting the outcome/sound/clarity of ur solo work. And don’t have any back-up singers, blegh, it sounded awful and so is that new video for Velocity Bird. YIKES!

  20. ‘MR. MOONLIGHT IS ALIVE AND WELL – DON’T DOUBT IT,’ SOUNDS LIKE THE COMMENT/QUOTE YOU MADE ABOUT HALLOWEEN’S MIRACULA EVENT ‘BEING A NIGHT OF POWER, A NIGHT OF FIRSTS.’ WHAT KIND OF COMMENTS ARE YOU TRYING TO CONVEY CUZ I HAVE TO SAY THAT YOU SOUND RIDICKULOUS!?! OH, BTW, ONLY THIRTY PEOPLE TURNED UP FOR YOUR NIGHT OF POWER. DING DONG/KNOCK KNOCK – ARE YOU GETTING ANY OF THIS? ME THINKS PEOPLE HAVE SEEN AND BEEN TO ENOUGH SINCE YOU HAVE BEEN TOURING NON-STOP SINCE 2011. PUT OUT A NEW ALBUM, SINCE YOU HAVE SAID IN NUMEROUS INTERVIEWS THAT YOU HAVE THE SONGS, THEN TOUR THE SHIT OUT OF IT. DON’T BE LIKE DEPECHE MODE AND TOUR AND SING THE SAME OLE/SAME OLE (YAWN!). IT’S NOT LIKE YOU’RE BROKE AND/OR HURTING SINCE I AM MOST CERTAIN YOU HAVE MADE A NICE CHUNK OF MONEY FROM YOUR EXCESSIVE AND OVERPRICED MEET AND GREETS.

  21. Are you insane doing this massive tour without Daniel, David J. and Kevin Haskins? WOW P.M., let Bauhaus’ legacy rest in peace not ruin it into pieces! You should be ashamed of yourself!! Long-time fan NO MORE; talk about ‘See Saw Sway,’ and ‘I Spit Roses.’ Ciao Mr. Moonlight – ZZZzzz

  22. Oh BTW, in your video for SEE SAW SWAY, how many solo pictures of you were on the massive fireplace mantle? I counted about ten – what’s up with that? This tour should be called MR. NARCISSTIC TOUR, NOT MR. MOONLIGHT. You really love yourself and it showed in yet another lame video. Like people have been saying on here, go back to your roots. CUTS YOU UP is one of the coolest videos ever. This new shit is just crap!
