The Cure, Nine Inch Nails, New Order among Lollapalooza 2013’s expected headliners

Lollapalooza poster

We’ve already speculated as to why there’s a good chance we’ll see The Cure and New Order on the bill of August’s Lollapalooza, and now comes a photo of what’s purported to be a poster featuring the Chicago festival’s yet-to-be-announced lineup, headlined by Robert Smith and Co. and also featuring New Order and Trent Reznor’s reactivated Nine Inch Nails.

The poster (via Chain of Flowers) also features the bands — Mumford & Sons, Phoenix, Vampire Weekend, The Killers, The National and Postal Service — that Chicago Tribune critic Greg Kot last week reported would be among the performers at the festival, set for Aug. 2-4 in Chicago’s Grant Park.

A photo of the same poster design used as a magazine ad also is circulating online.

UPDATE: The Chicago Tribune’s Greg Kot confirms the Lollapalooza lineup poster is authentic.

Festival organizers have said they’ll formally announced the lineup April 9 next week. Three-day GA passes already are sold out, but single-day passes will go on sale when the lineup is revealed.

The same weekend as Lollapalooza, both The Cure and New Order are slated to play the Osheaga Festival Musique et Arts in Montreal. Neither band has announced other North American dates yet this summer, although The Cure — which is headed to Latin America next month — has just confirmed appearances at the Ansan Valley Rock Festival in South Korea on July 26 and the Fuji Rock Festival in Japan on July 28.

New Order has indicated more U.S. concerts are due later this year.

  1. NO w/o hooky playing lolla is so very, very sad.

  2. I would agree. But how long has Hooky been touring JD with The Light ?

  3. New Order without Hook is like The Cure without Simon Gallup. A huge part of the band is missing.

  4. And the Cure with Jason Cooper is not very good either.

  5. Jeesh–let it go and, just don’t go.

  6. All the complaints don’t even matter. All of you will be there. why? these groups don’t tour enough for us to even think boycotting their concerts would be a good idea. Get your money ready, either Montreal or Chicago for anyone who has ever been a fan of New order or the Cure.

  7. Are the Cure just a touring act these days? Its been over five years since the last (disappointing) album.

  8. Noel Turner

Seen both a couple times. Who ever gets to go to this I envy you…even with the missing members.

  9. I can honestly say after seeing New Order last fall, that if I didn’t know Hook wasn’t playing, I couldn’t tell the difference. They were amazing and their energy level was through the roof.

It sucks that he’s gone, and the true test will be how their new album holds up with his absence. But he left on his own accord, so what else were they supposed to do?

This is an awesome lineup and I may have to fly up for this one!

  10. The Cure are boring live and to make matters worse they keep playing until the promoters tell them to fuck off. Saw them in London once and we actually missed the last train home, horrible show too.
