Stream: Auto Reverse — Slicing Up Eyeballs Mixtape (April 2013)

mixtape_cropped_april2013

Another month, another Auto Reverse mixtape — two 45-minute sides of music new and vintage. But change is in the air: We’ve altered format slightly, moving from Soundcloud to Mixcloud for the streaming mixes, which, unfortunately, are no longer available for download.

What happened? Well, we recently got hit with 20+ copyright violation notices from Soundcloud, leading to the removal of a couple dozen files, mostly sides to various Auto Reverse mixtapes. Some of the past sides are still on Soundcloud for your listening pleasure, but many were removed.

With that in mind, this month marks a shift to Mixcloud for the mixtape series, which provides us with a great (and seemingly legit) streaming option, but without the ability to download the files. Hope the new format works; let me know your thoughts in the comments below.

As for this month’s mix, we’ve got brand-new music from The House of Love, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, The Replacements, Wire and OMD, plus old faves from Steve Kilbey, David Bowie, The Dukes of Stratosphear, Mission of Burma, The Pop Group, Tears for Fears and more.

Check it about below — and enjoy.

  1. Nice touch throwing the new OMD into the mix. English Electric is shaping up to be a nice slab of 80s.

  2. is this downloadable anymore?

  3. great question xx.

why are we unable to download anymore?

  4. My Friend, thanks for ALL you do here on your wonderful site that I check each day. I eat, I breathe, I check slicingupeyeballs…not necessarily in that order….just kidding, you get the drift that your work is not unappreciated or taken for granted. I would like to add my 2 cents. Please make it downloadable in someway as this is what the spirit of a mix tape was in the 80’s. Being able to have our own copy in a Maxell or TDK tape to listen in our cheap cars and 2 cassette boomboxes with auto-reverse. That would be sweet if you can make it a possibility. Thanks again!

    • Right now, my inclination is to not risk doing downloads. SoundCloud is no longer an option since they have apparently gotten a lot more aggressive with copyright violation detection, and I’m not willing to post the files on this site and risk having record labels come after me personally.

  5. No Download? dont bother

  6. Steve kilbey … Pretty ugly pretty sad. Man I wish I could sit and a beer with you. Love your work thx

  7. If you can’t download them, You may as well discontinue the
Mixtapes! Really how many people just listen to the
    stream?

  8. Just wanted to chime in and say I listen to the Mixtape stream all the time at work. That being said I am bummed it’s not available to download anymore. Love the music.

Thank you for taking the time to put this together every month- I enjoy listening to them! It was nice to download them so I could play them in my car while driving but the streaming will be ok too.

  10. I love this site – and I love these mixtapes. I did enjoy taking them offline and listening to them at work or in the car. Now I will just have to try and fit in time at home once a month to listen to the streaming version.

I think you do an EXCELLENT job in getting this out there. Obviously D/L would have been preferred but I would rather have streaming than nothing! Thanks for the excellent work!

  11. I have no problem with the streaming. You make a good mix, and I’m okay with leaving the tab open in my browser for a few days while I listen to my heart’s content. Thanks for this, as always. I’d rather have it on stream than have you forbidden from doing it or having to pay a stupid fine.

  12. While I appreciate the work that goes into these, if I can’t download I probably will rarely get to hear a whole tape. Most of my music listening happens in my car, and with the cell companies forcing everyone to switch to tired data plans, I have to watch my bandwidth usage. I don’t think you should stop, I just regret that I’m not going to be able to enjoy them as much.

  13. Any way you can send links via e-mail so I can download this one? Would love to have it.
