Stream: Visage, ‘Shameless Fashion’ — lead single off band’s 1st album in 29 years

Visage circa 2013

Resurrected New Wave-era rockers Visage — best remembered for their classic 1980 single “Fade to Grey” — return next month with Hearts and Knives, the band’s fourth album and first in 29 years. The record is preceded by lead single “Shameless Fashion,” which you can download for free on the group’s Facebook page and/or stream via the player below.

The track is due out digitally April 15 and on CD on May 6, with the full album following later in May.

Steve Strange reformed Visage — which split in 1985 after three albums — several years ago, recruiting the band’s latter-period bassist Steve Barnacle,  former Ultravox and Magazine guitarist Robin Simon and new singer Lauren Duvall. Strange apparently had begun working on the album with Visage co-founder Rusty Egan, but that ended over “creative differences.”

In the band’s press kit, Strange says of the decision to revive Visage:

“It was a question really of all the parts falling into place. Firstly, I am at a point in my life where I have been clean for 10 years and I am happy with my life and, secondly, the positive people I now surro9und myself with —not least the members of Visage — helped to create an atmosphere where the album started to happen. It took us three years and it was no easy ride, but it’s here now and we are all really pleased with it.”

Below, you can stream the record’s first single, “Shameless Fashion,” and watch a promo video featuring Strange discussing the reformation of Visage and the group’s forthcoming album.

  6. What a god-awful band. What’s next, a Gene Loves Jezebel reunion?

  7. RE: RR – Doesn’t sound like that will ever happen.

Also, the guitar in this sounds like a note-for-note (homage/take-off) of Everyday Should Be A Holiday by The Dandy Warhols..
