Video: Johnny Marr plays The Smiths’ ‘There Is a Light That Never Goes Out’ at Coachella

There may have been no Smiths reunion at Coachella once again this year, but they were there in spirit as guitarist Johnny Marr played the festival’s first day, whipping out three classics by his former band — including the indelible “There Is a Light That Never Goes Out,” which you can see in all its high-quality webcast glory right here.

Marr also played “Stop Me If You Think You’ve Heard This One Before” and “How Soon Is Now?” — both of which you can watch below via audience video — in addition to a number of selections form this new solo album, The Messenger. See full setlist below.

And check out the full Coachella webcast all this weekend.

  1. As the brits would say: Brilliant.

  2. I appreciate this, but without Morrissey’s vocals it’s missing far too much.
