The Cure playing two-weekend Austin City Limits Music Festival in October

This year’s Austin City Limits Music Festival — which runs Oct. 4-8 and 11-13 in Austin, Texas — won’t officially announce its lineup until May 7, but the event’s organizers are cleverly planting clues around Austin in newspaper ads, plastic cups, T-shirts and even bottle caps. And it’s the latter that, by all appearances, confirms The Cure will play the Texas festival.

As Chain of Flowers points out, The Cure’s involvement already had been heavily suspected thanks to a series of lineup anagrams the festival has been employing — and when it comes time to decipher a scramble like EUCHRE T, well, there aren’t a lot of options outside of THE CURE.

On Saturday, though, the band’s involvement seemingly was confirmed when Instagram user smellbows shared a photo — which is posted above — of a Topo Chico mineral water bottle cap imprinted with “THE CURE #aclfest.” Now, the festival hasn’t added The Cure to its lineup hints page as it has done with other bands confirmed this way, but that’s probably just a matter of time.

Among the acts the festival has confirmed: Fun., D’Angelo, Portugal. The Man, Grouplove, Neko Case and The Joy Formidable. Muse is believed to be one of the fest’s headliners, and Depeche Mode is also strongly rumored to be appearing — speculation bolstered by the band’s October tour itinerary, which could accommodate both weekends of the festival.

As for The Cure, the band just wrapped up rare Latin American tour, and so far has scheduled a handful of festival dates in South Korea, Japan and North America this summer, including appearances at Osheaga in Montreal and Lollapalooza in Chicago this August.

UPDATE 5/5/13: The Austin City Limits Music Festival has confirmed, via its lineup hints page (see image below), that The Cure will perform at the October festival. Three-day passes are priced at $225 and go on sale on May 7; there are no single-day tickets available for this festival.

  1. No single day passes? Good thing I know how to sneak into this show, so I will pay nothing to see The Cure, lol.

Offer me a single day pass for them and I’ll pay.

  2. Way too pricey, only band I’m interested in is The Cure, but not for $225! Maybe they will play some other shows during that time frame.

I will not see The Cure at festivals, too much of a pain fighting the 40,000 people crowds. I’ll wait until they play a normal show…

So is the line up the same on both weekends or will there be different bands playing during each weekend?
