Peter Hook to play New Order’s ‘Movement,’ ‘Power, Corruption & Lies’ on U.S. tour

Peter Hook

Peter Hook today announced that he will return to North America this September with his band The Light to perform New Order’s first two albums — 1981′s Movement and 1983′s Power, Corruptions & Lies — in their entirety, as well as various singles and B-sides “from the corresponding period of the band’s history,” on an 11-date tour.

The tour, Hook’s first U.S. trek in two years, will also include a previously announced slot at Chicago’s Riot Fest, where he’ll perform an exclusive Joy Division set.

The trek opens Sept. 10 in Boston and continues through Sept. 28 in Denver, hitting Riot Fest sometime between Sept. 13 and 15 and also including a Seattle show that is part of that city’s Decibel Festival.

  1. Nowhere in the South. Figures.

  2. i reside in the salt lake city area – a haven for 80’s music fans. unfortunately, most concert venues are set-up by promoters and NOT the artists. most of what we get here is the derivative country-western shows over and over. the only bright spot is that, when an 80’s (or otherwise modern, post-modern, and/or alternative) artist actually performs here once, they almost always sell-out and come back regularly – i.e: OMD, Depeche Mode, Peter Murphy, etc.

Try living in Phoenix, AZ. We’re the 6th largest metro area in the country, with a huge 80’s fanbase, and these tours ALWAYS skip us…

  3. Except Depeche Mode and the Pet Shop Boys are skipping over SLC this time.. Boo…

  4. I live in Salt Lake City and Utah was a wonderul place for concerts in the 80’s and 90’s, both in terms of venues and audience reception. It was a favorite city for many bands. For some reason, since the 2000’s, modern rock bands stopped coming. When Club DV8 closed, it hurt the prospects. The Depot is a better venue for shows, but doesn’t get the acts. I hope things change.
Peter Murphy always enjoyed playing SLC, but it took him 10 years to come back to the city since playing here on the Dust Tour.

  5. Peter Hook, buddy… with all due respect, kindly fuck off already! The JD cow your milking must be totally dry by now. The longer you pull this shit off, the more attention, publicity and respect is given to your former band mates in New Order/Joy Division…. makes us appreciate Ian just that much more!
It sucks seeing your name and then in brackets “Joy Division Set”.
Why don’t you lay some more bass lines down for Gwen Stefani or some other crap poptart?
    Wanker!

  6. OH MY LORD! MY LIFE HAS ENDED! I’M GOING TO DELETE ALL MY DIGITALIZED JOY DIVISION/NEW ORDER SONGS (I DOWNLOADED THEM LAST WEEK) NOW! YOU’RE DEAD TO ME! YOU’RE DEAD TO ME, PETER HOOK–YOU”VE RUINED THEIR (ER, YOUR) MUSIC FOR ME! AFTER I WATCH CONTROL ON IFC TONIGHT I WILL DELETE IT, TOO! AH! HOW DARE YOU PLAY THE MUSIC YOUE WROTE! HOW DARE YOU NOT WRITE NEW SONGS! HOW DARE YOU NOT WRITE NEW SONGS THAT ARE BETTER THAN YOUR OLD SONGS AND PLAY THOSE NEW BAD SONGS (AND YOUR OLD GOOD SONGS THAT WROTE BEFORE I WAS ALIVE) NEAR WHERE I LIVE SO I CAN REFUSE TO GO–BECAUSE YOU SUCK–YOU’RE NOT THE WAY YOU WERE WHEN YOU WERE YOU WHEN I WASN’T!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  7. Hi Patrizia – yep. We kinda get the point. There’s having a view on Hooky’s current mode of musical presentation (and freely choosing to ignore it if you’d like) and then there’s acting as if your own life’s ended. Personally? As I have often said, Hooky for me is heading down the Roger Waters path. Playing solo-band shows filled mainly with material he already wrote from the parent band he used to be with. Does it matter? In itself, not really. I am just one of those happy with the fact that New Order remains an ongoing project with Barn at the helm, a-la Dave Gilmour, and that’s enough for me.

  8. LETS_PLAY_HOOKY

Hooky can milk this fan and his fat wallet anytime and as often as he would like.

Just so glad that I get to hear vintage NO/JD tracks live.

Can’t wait for the 20 song setlist!!!!

  9. Toby, plus one.

  10. I’m sober now… a bit.

  11. That 80's Guy

‘Tours’ just ain’t what they used to be. Once was a time when a ‘tour’ was a 40 – 50 date across all major, semi-major, and even smaller markets.

Now? These bands play 10 – 20 dates in very select markets and not very often.

Look at Depeche Mode; they are playing in only 18 North American cities/markets… I mean, 18 markets? And 4 dates in the LA area? Pathetic.

The Cult are doing a 31 date North American tour…now that’s more like it.

But again, these bands used to really ‘tour’, now it’s just a cash grab in a few markets. Peter Hook is not doing a ‘tour’, he’s doing a cash grab in a few places.

  12. LETS_PLAY_HOOKY

Hooky can grab my cash in L.A. as often as he wishes!!!

Hooky — how about doing a two week ‘residency’ at The Fonda — a ala Tom Petty???

  13. The only difference is that The Cult suck balls…like big hairy infected donkey balls

  14. Batshiz Crazay

“Power, Corruption & Lies”, definitely sums up Peter Hook.

  15. It’s not New Order without Bernard, Steven and Gillian!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  16. It’s not New Order without Hooky!!!!!!!!!!!!

  17. I don’t why everyone is in such an uproar and bashing Hookie. No, it won’t be NO, but after seeing Barney making such a twat of himself on late nite TV I’m not sure I’m willing to go and see that either.

  18. John: He is a twat for sure. During Coachella he slipped and fell on the desert dust on stage. Granted – it should have been wiped before NO took the stage. After getting up Bernard said that if he was an American he would sue someone. I took offense to that.

    • You took offense to that? He was joking, idjit. Seriously–look in the mirrow and see a puke. Hey, site-runner–you should remane this: WAAAAH. That’s what ever comment section is filled with–old, gray, testosteroneless tears.

    • That’s actually a funny joke, all things considered. Definitely not as bad as when Morrissey said George W. Bush is married to a cross dresser at a concert in Texas, of all places.

  19. New Order & Hooky are still going after your pocketbook so it does not really matter

  20. Wow only 11 cities in the USA, I am so happy and know that we are so fortunate in Denver that he is coming. I didn’t get to go to the New Order show last year, because tickets we’re so expensive, but this show isn’t expensive. I’m so there. I bet will sell out.
