For this week’s “120 Minutes” Rewind, we travel back to 1988 for a Kevin Seal-hosted “120 X-Ray” segment on former Soft Cell frontman Marc Almond, who discusses his then-new album The Stars We Are and its single “Tears Run Rings,” as well as his next project, Jacques, which would be released in 1989.   2. A few weeks ago, Tony Visconti was on Soundcheck to speak about his work with Bowie. Near the end of the broadcast he mentioned that he was now working with Almond, and he played a cut: stunning. A glam ballad w/ a tinge of Weimar.

  3. It’s weird to remember that “The Stars We Are” almost returned Almond to something like stardom in America. I still get requests for “Tears Run Rings” on my KEXP shows. Thanks for sharing this!

    it reached # 67 on the hot 100 by 1989 and that was thanks to 120 Minutes, which gave alternative artists a platform
