Moz confusion: Promoter insists Morrissey’s concerts in Argentina, Brazil not postponed

Morrissey

A day after organizers of Morrissey’s planned concerts in Peru and Chile announced the ex-Smiths frontman had postponed his entire South American tour after he and members of his crew suffered “severe food poisoning” in Lima, the promoter of four dates in Argentina and Brazil at the end of the trek insisted that those shows will go on as scheduled.

The confusion comes as Morrissey has yet to make any announcement via his two usual means of communication — the True To You fansite or his official Facebook page — about the fate of the South American tour, which did not start as planned last night in Lima.

Morrissey is booked to play one concert in Argentina, in Buenos Aires on July 28, and three in Brazil — Sao Paulo on July 30, Brasilia on Aug. 2 and Rio de Janeiro on Aug. 4 — to wrap up what was announced as a 14-date tour of South America.

This afternoon, promoter T4F posted the following message on Facebook:

PERSONAL ATTENTION!

The shows of MORRISSEY in Brazil were NOT CANCELLED.

Despite the news of malaise of the musician and his team in Lima, please be advised that the singer-songwriter shows in Brazil were not cancelled.

And T4F’s Argentinian Twitter account announced that the Buenos Aires show is still on, too:

The promoter of Morrissey’s concerts in Peru and Chile, along with the arena he was slated to play in Santiago, on Tuesday announced that all of the singer’s Latin American concerts in July and August had been postponed due to illness, a report that was carried by the media across South America.

A representative of the Chile-based concert promoter told Peru’s El Comercio newspaper that the South American concerts were not scrubbed due to low ticket sales:

“That is categorically denied. Concerts in Chile were completely sold. Those of Argentina were by 80% and also shows in Brazil. And we in Lima only had 10% of the tickets left to sell for both datesWe even had a surprise concert planned for the weekend. It was not for lack of ticket sales.”

Ticket refund information for Peru and Chile is expected to be announced Friday.

Morrissey was to have resumed touring this week for the first time since his trouble-plagued North American trek in late 2012 and earlier this year that, after multiple postponements, finally was canceled altogether in mid-March. The singer’s publicists blamed the cancellations on “a series of medical mishaps over the past few months including a bleeding ulcer, Barrett’s esophagus and double pneumonia.”

  1. I think Moz saw his head in the mirror and like what he saw and thought, yeah, let’s skip Brazil

  2. Just stop it, please.

It’s time to go the hologram route.

wow… another cancelled show? Never saw that coming. He’s got the rep now of Robert Downey Jr and Lindsay Lohan! He no-shows more than he plays. He went from the top of my list to off the list completely.

  4. This is just setting up buzz for the 2014 “Hairdresser In A Coma” tour.
