Video: Nine Inch Nails at Lollapalooza 2013 — watch full 100-minute webcast

Trent Reznor

Trent Reznor went full circle Friday night in Chicago, bringing his resurrected Nine Inch Nails back to Lollapalooza some 22 years after the band played the then-traveling tour’s inaugural year. This time, instead of landing a daytime slot under the hot sun, NIN headlined the festival’s first night, playing on U.S. soil for the first time in four years.

Below, check out the setlist and watch the full 22-song, 100-minute webcast (via XXX).

  1. Really? He made it through a whole set? I remember the VERY FIRST Lollapalozza in Phoenix. Trent cried and walked off stage during his first song because it was “too hot” and his crappy equipment didn’t work. On his defense, he did play a free makeup show during cooler weather.

  2. I love Broken and The Downward Spiral, but this military haircut, muscle man version of Reznor is horrible.

    • Never been a huge NIN fan but could appreciate his work up to half of what was released as “The Fragile” and I agree that this current clean and sober, military, muscle man, no fishnets to be seen Trent is actually harder to tolerate.
As to reiterate what someone had posted in a previous post, this stuff is great for a pissed off 13 year old but not so much fun when you’re in your forties and realize that there are more problems than our personal depressions.

      • Ha well put! For me when get a new album of his it sounds good for a few listens, but I rarely go back to it. His new buff look is too Bro like for me. I guess I miss the scrawny fish-net laden Trent too!

        • In all honesty, the current Trent resembles a boxed-in lego piece or a Ken-Barbie doll replica and the music isn’t far from plastic either (sorry NINnies) :)

  3. Nice skorts MC Reznor. :) Solid lineup. Love the new songs. He does seem re-energized.

  4. Who cares what he’s wearing or how big his muscles are? Although NIN is far from their musical peak, he still puts on a good show.

  5. Vocals, i miss the old reznor when he was still on drugs.

  6. That 80's Guy

I gave up on NIN after TDS, I really could not just get into any of his post Downward Spiral work.. I’ll always love Pretty Hate Machine, Broken, and TDS.. but everything else is ‘eh’ and not worth my time.

  7. Guess y’all have never had a bad day since you were 13.
Personally, I like to come home and blast Ministry or NIN after a Monday at work.

  8. Excellent show. Loved the new material. His new material continues to mature. Unlike most, I’m glad to see the I’m-miserable-act, fishnet stockings disappear.

  9. Delta-Mode

I’ve never been a big NIN fan but that show was pretty damn good and the new songs sound interesting, i do like him more when he uses electronics rather than all that trashing and screaming guitar stuff, looking forward to the new album.
I also find it interesting that a reviewer noted the band’s entrance onto the stage as something they invented specifically for the festival audience – its quite clearly a homage to the Talking Heads Stop Making Sense.

  10. I still remember being at nothing studios, sitting behind the as they dished out that mother fucker of a version of Gave up. the mood was quiet and it felt cold, dry but at any moment hell was gonna break loose..and it did. nobody was introduced but we huddled around where ever we could, mostly out of sight and the sound of Trents fucking voice was amazing cause you could hear it outside of the microphone… I was so fucking trashed in my head thinking if i died now i wouldnt choose a better time this this one. in nothing studios you felt like nothing just a pig at their disposal.
