Now that we’re knee-deep in August, seems as good a time as any to dump the new installment of the Auto Reverse mixtape series on you guys— two 45-minute sides of music new and vintage from some of your favorite artists. Below, you can stream it via Mixcloud or download the two sides, too — at least for a limited time.

This month’s tape features brand-new music from The Mission, Gary Numan, The Chills, Kitchens of Distinction and Paul Weller, plus old faves by the likes of Split Enz, This Mortal Coil, Midnight Oil, X, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Let’s Active, Microdisney, R.E.M. and much more.

  1. With the advent of file-sharing and youtube and with tons of time scouring the internet, it is almost impossible to find a “lost” song from the 80s that I once loved. I feel like I’ve found then all by this point. So, good job with the Daniel Ash pull. Haven’t heard it in twenty years, and recognized it in the first two notes. Great song!!!

If you’re looking for another one on your next mix, how about Jerry Harrison, “Man With a Gun.” I’d be interested in people throwing down one of their own in reply. But beware, the bar is pretty high.

    • Another GREAT mix, Matt. Love how “I Believe” kicks off Side 2. Has me even more excited about the ’86 results. And “Six Months in a Leaky Boat”–that song has a timelessness all its own. Some great live Finn Bros versions of it are out there, including some amazing acoustic ones, which I’m sure you’ve heard, too.

And, Brian, thanks for reminding me what a gem “Man with a Gun” is! Ordered the “Something Wild” soundtrack right after reading your comment. May have to go after “Casual Gods” next.

Would love to hear something like Marty Willson-Piper’s “She’s King,” Peter Koppes’s “Take a Vow,” or Michael Hutchence’s cover of “Rooms for the Memory” on a future Auto Reverse Mixtape or Tuesday night Strangeways show, if you’re up for requests, Matt!

  2. Nice, dont need bad sounding, pay to listen to commercials Sirius Radio to hear great stuff

  3. Thank you again for another great mix! :)

  4. Simply the most exciting blog I have discovered this year. What a treasure trove. I cannot wait to camp out here over the next few months and take in all the gems – the mixtapes, the Tuesday night shows, and all the great updates.

Thanks, guys, for creating such a wonderful place.

  5. Matt, your efforts are always appreciated and I’m glad the mixtape is two years old and going strong. All the best.
