Free MP3: The Mission, ‘Sometimes the Brightest Light Comes From the Darkest Place’ (MG-T Mix)

The Mission

While they’ve already previewed one song (“Drag”) from their upcoming reunion album, The Mission this week released the record’s first official single: “Sometimes the Brightest Light Comes From the Darkest Place,” which is not only available for sale from the usual digital outlets, but it can also be downloaded, for free, in remixed form.

Below, you can stream and/or download the remix by Mark Gemini Thwaite, who played guitar in The Mission throughout much of the ’90s and early 2000s.

The new album, The Brightest Light, finds Wayne Hussey reunited with original members Simon Hinkler and Craig Adams for the first time since 1990′s Carved In Sand. It’s due out Sept. 17, immediately following the band’s first North American tour in more than a decade.

  2. LOVE the Mish, but wasn’t too impressed with the album sampler. Having said that, I dug this mix quite a bit! Gives me some hope that the new album isn’t totally going to let me down.

  3. I am actually starting to think that The Mission should ditch Simon Hinkler and take Mark Thwaite back. He is a better guitarist for them as Hinkler has appeared to embrace a cock rocking style since he went away and the sound clips reflected this. That said, this mix isn’t bad. MGT was great on Aura and Neverland…and he is also great with Peter Murphy.

  4. I’m not a fan of the remix, but the actual song is one of the album’s top 3 (along with Black Cat Bone and Swan Song). The remix gets rid of the guitar riff, which is the melody that really makes the song so great. The way Wayne sings on this track really demands guitars, not electronic backing tracks.
