Morrissey says he’s been treated for concussion, whiplash, arm injury — doesn’t reveal why

Morrissey, circa 2009

Morrissey’s year of medical maladies continues, with the former Smiths frontman today announcing that he was treated and discharged from Los Angeles’ Cedars-Sinai Medical Center for a concussion (his second in a year), whiplash and an arm injury — although in his typically cryptic fashion, Moz didn’t bother to explain what happened to him.

As usual, Morrissey’s statement came via quasi-official fansite True To You, and in it he also thanks the medical staff at Cedars-Sinai for their “outstanding level of care and attention.”

Morrissey’s latest medical mishap follows a severe bought of food poisoning, brought on, he claimed, by a bad plate of penne pasta, that resulted in the cancellation of his South American tour this past summer.

Before that, Morrissey canceled the remainder of his U.S. tour this past spring — a trek already rescheduled from the previous fall, and marred by postponed shows — over “a series of medical mishaps over the past few months including a bleeding ulcer, Barrett’s esophagus and double pneumonia.”

Adding to that list, Moz also revealed in January that he’d suffered a concussion, too.

Below, read Morrissey’s latest medical update:

  1. He’s been suffering too much. I just hope he gets better in time for touring again.

  2. Jesus, it sounds like he was involved in a car accident. I think that he should move back to England and make another record. Los Angeles is a massive dump. Why do Europeans find any interest in the place? I think that all of the Bauhaus members live there as well.

  3. A bizarre penne pasta accident.

  4. Is he a drunk that constantly falls?

  5. Dog barks: “What’s the matter Lassie? Did Morrissey fall in the well? Again?”
Maybe we need the ‘Old Yeller’ gun?

  6. Maybe if he’d eat meat he wouldn’t end up so sick so often.
    Hello steak!

  7. @Andrew – Because a lot of times they’re at a point where most of their fans are In the US or Central/South America so it makes it easier to tour more regularly. Also, most of the artists from London who make the move can afford to live in relative comfort from a monetary standpoint and save money on taxes. Americans hate their high taxes but have no idea how much higher they are in England and Europe, especially since the wealthy are more severely taxed than the commoners. It’s a big reason why the Stones, Clapton and more recently Richard Branson chose to leave. A big reason why U2 aren’t that popular in Ireland anymore is because live like kings in their castles but very little taxes due to where their primary residence is located. It all basically comes down to money and better weather.

  8. Oh, and get better soon Moz!

That’s what happens when you listen to the rocks below instead of going to meet the one you love, apparently.

  10. Still ill, Moz???

That’s O.K. Just saw Johnny last night and he’s feeling and sounding very well.

    Get well soon!
