Black Francis, Kristin Hersh, Juliana Hatfield on board for Wes Anderson tribute ‘I Saved Latin!’

I Saved Latin

American Laundromat Records next spring will release a double-CD tribute to quirky director Wes Anderson titled I Saved Latin!, a collection that will feature indie artists such as Black Francis, Kristin Hersh, Juliana Hatfield, Mike Watt and more covering songs featured in films including “Bottle Rocket,” “Rushmore,” “Royal Tenenbaums” and more.

A release date and final tracklist has not yet been revealed, but the label has released a preliminary rundown of confirmed artists and the songs they’re covering (a lot of British Invasion stuff, naturally), with the the promise that more will be added.

The set is now available for pre-order through American Laundromat in a variety of packages that include items such as T-shirts, a Max Fischer business card or a Steve Zissou red knit cap.

  1. That’s a fine lineup! American Laundromat has had good luck assembling crowds like this of late, on the Smiths tribute and that indie lullabies album.

Interesting that Trespassers Wm. is contributing, since they disbanded a while ago. I wonder if they already had this Nico cover in the can? No matter, I already know Anna-Lynne Williams is totally going to own that song.

*sorry if this is a double post, the site has been rejecting my comments — 8-(

  2. The reason I’ve ordered this (besides the fact that I like a good tribute album) is because Austin band Tele Novella is covering The Velvet Underground. I’ve been a HUGE fan of lead singer Natalie Gordon ever since she fronted the duo Agent Ribbons and am hoping that 2014 is her year to get the attention she so richly deserves. This girl has written a collection of songs worthy of their own tribute album, and I doubt that could be said for every other artist on this Wes Anderson compilation. I recommend that you pull up Agent Ribbons and Tele Novella on YouTube, Spotify, and Soundcloud and have a listen.
