Eurythmics reuniting to perform at post-Grammys tribute to The Beatles

Eurythmics

Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart will reunite once again as the Eurythmics to perform a yet-to-be-announced Beatles cover at “The Night That Changed America: A Grammy Salute to the Beatles,” a television special that’s being taped on Jan. 27 in Los Angeles the day after the Grammy Awards take place, according to CBS News.

The special itself — which also will feature John Mayer and Keith Urban playing “Don’t Let Me Down” and Alicia Keys and John Legend performing “Let It Be,” among others — will air on CBS on Feb. 9, exactly 50 years to the day after the Beatles made their historic U.S. television debut on “The Ed Sullivan Show,” a broadcast watched by an estimated 73 million people.

As for why he booked the Eurythmics, Grammys producer Ken Ehrlich told CBS: “When it came around to booking this show, what I felt was important was to try and find those artists who not only would be able to interpret Beatles songs, but would also have an … understanding of what they meant.”

The Eurythmics, hugely popular during the ’80s with a string of worldwide New Wave hits, have not released a new album since 1999 reunion effort Peace, although they have contributed new songs to a best-of and performed sporadically in the intervening 15 years.

A British band influenced by black American artists that dissolved in acrimony after a string of hits paying tribute to The Beatles.

Nope. Can’t see any connection there.

  2. I don’t want to see any of those “featured artists” cover the Beatles. And the connection is very weak indeed linking Eurythmics to the fab four, though I bet they could do a decent cover of “Because.”

  3. I’m trying to figure out why you would bother to reunite a band just to play a cover. Ken must be payin’ good I suppose.

  4. I highly doubt that Dave and Annie are accepting payment for this performance.
