Belly’s 1993 debut album ‘Star’ to receive first-ever U.S. vinyl pressing this year

Belly-Star

Originally released in 1993, Star — the debut album from ex-Throwing Muses member Tanya Donelly’s band Belly — will receive its first-ever American vinyl release later this year when Plain Recordings reissues the title on 180-gram vinyl, the label announced on Facebook.

Donelly, also a onetime member of The Breeders, formed Belly in 1991 with bassist Fred Abong, guitarist Tom Gorman and drummer Chris Gorman. The album, which hit No. 2 in the U.K. and featured the modern-rock hits “Feed the Tree” and “Gepetto,” only had been issued on vinyl by 4AD in the U.K.

Plain Recordings has not yet announced a release date for the new pressing.

Below, re-acquaint yourself with the original video for “Feed the Tree.”

  1. I fell in love with Donelly’s voice on this recording, but quickly grew sick of the album because the CD was in the 6-disc changer in the hatchback of my car and I was too lazy to ever bother to change out those discs. Peter Murphy’s “Love Hysteria” and PJ Harvey’s “Rid of Me” suffered similar fates.

  2. All Plain Recordings vinyl albums are mastered from CDs and are typically not approved by the artist, so what’s the point?

  3. FYI all: Throwing Muses are doing some East Coast dates with Tanya Donelly on their current tour. I saw them last night in Seattle without her, but they’re coming back in June and bringing her along with them. Just got tickets for that show too. Yeah!
