Peter Murphy unveils 33-date North American tour, 6-minute ‘Lion’ album teaser

Peter Murphy, 'Lion'

Former Bauhuas frontman Peter Murphy this morning confirmed the full itinerary for his 33-date late spring/early summer North American tour in support of his forthcoming 10th album Lion, a record that he’s also previewing for the first time today via a 6-minute video — which you can see below — that teases a number of the album’s 11 tracks.

Like Echo & The Bunnymen’s upcoming record, Lion is produced by Killing Joke bassist Youth, and is due out July 2/3 around the world. The album will be preceded by a limited-edition metallic-silver 7-inch single featuring a  dub mix of “Hang Up,” the album opener and the record’s first single, on Record Store Day.

Murphy’s tour opens May 22 in Las Vegas and hits 32 cities for 33 shows, wrapping up June 3 and 5 in Los Angeles. See full dates below.

  1. Now THAT’S A TOUR!!!

  2. Why why why did they book the Denver date on the same night as Nick Cave???

  3. Thank you for providing very up-to-date information on the tour and upcoming album release. And, of course, a big thank-you to Mr. Murphy. I’m really looking forward to attending a couple of shows on the tour and hearing the new album.

Well, it’s a step up from “Ninth.”

  5. Yikes, this is awful!! At least Ninth had some cool hits; this, on the other hand, is crap 💩. And “all ages” at the venues – NOT INTERESTED IN ATTENDING A SHOW WITH KIDDIES 👎!!

  6. Been There

Hmmm, “The Ghost Of Shokane Lane,” or should it be “This Song Is So Lame?” Once again, the same ole/same ole P.M. voice of sounding like he is falling off of a high cliff and singing his highest opera level ever. And I wonder what he thinks when he sings “Loctaine?” To me it would remind me of “cocaine,” or “meth.” Bottom line, this album reminds me of Unshattered; it just doesn’t have that classic Peter Murphy “Love Hysteria,” “Deep,” “Holy Smoke,” and “If The World Should Fail To Fall Apart.” And, yeah, saw that all the venues are accepting “ALL AGES”!! WOW, I remember seeing P.M. back in the late 80’s/early 90’s and there were never little kiddies running around. Now it’s all about thy greedy hand; pay up front Meet & Greets, get your picture taken (ewwww big deal). Back in the day, P.M. was happy to see his fans awaiting him at the back and would stop to chat, sign anything (for free), and hang out with his fans. I remember one time in the Bay Area, San Francisco for those of you who do not know, and a lot of peeps were all out back by the stage door awaiting P.M. to come out and we were up in our apartment and we put orange and black candles all over the place, dimmed the house lights, and put up a really cool sign that he could see when he came out and he really, really liked it. That was back in the day when P.M. could put on a show LIKE NO OTHER. I say it’s time to reunite with Daniel Ash and the Haskin Brothers and get the blood flowing again because this is all just the same ole/same ole. Sad, but true.

Meh, I personally think that this will be it. Touring relentlessly for three years to promote Ninth, then, how could we NOT forget, The Bauhaus Mr. Moonlight World Tour, another ALL ages and kiddies everywhere.
No, sorry, I am done. “A fire without a spark” is what his voice is. Don’t care for the screaming on the new songs on LION. Could someone get Murphy some throat lozenges? His voice pains me … (rolls eyes). It was real, but someone got full (fool) of themselves; what else is new? NOTHING.

  9. wow, people here can be super relentless. Look, no its not Love Hysteria, but that was 25 years ago. Peter always morphs a bit on each record (i.e. Dust) and gives you something new. If he did Holy Smoke II people would bitch that he’s just rehashing the same stuff. His albums always take a couple of listens to grow on me, because its usually not what I expected, which means its fresh to my ears. Look, like all of us he’s getting older, his voice will never sound like he’s 18. SO if you like the screaming and harder sound, enjoy it. I’m just glad he’s putting out something new and look forward to the show (despite the crappy venue).

Sadly, I feel that when an artist changes there will always be people ready to pounce on the fact that they’re no longer as they used to be. But we need to remember that people change and morph and will continue to do so as they age. He’s not 80’s Peter Murphy. He’s no longer in his 30s. That being said, his constant smoking probably doesn’t help his already straining voice. But he still produces albums with is saying a lot when you consider most artists who reached their “peaks” earlier on. At this point I just hope he’s okay as a human being with a life off stage and that negativity that is so easily thrown around isn’t knocking him off balance.

  11. Love all the music critics on here. Ugh. He could have gone into hiding or killed himself….but no….he’s still putting out music and seemingly enjoys doing it. It may not be that first album that we heard by him that will be forever etched your brain, but it’s still Peter Murphy(Eliza is a great song by the way). I, for one, have enjoyed the 30 years of great music Peter and will see you in New Orleans. Thanks.
