Butthole Surfers’ ‘Independent Worm Saloon’ to receive 180-gram vinyl reissue

Butthole Surfers

The 1993 major-label debut from psychedelic experimental rockers Butthole Surfers — Independent Worm Saloon, produced by Led Zeppelin’s John Paul Jones, and featuring the single “Who Was In My Room Last Night?” — will be reissued this fall on 180-gram vinyl by Plain Recordings, the label announced this week.

The album marked the odd and unpredictable band’s short two-album tenure on Capitol Records — a signing that would pay off with 1996’s alt-rock hit “Pepper” — that’s further proof that, after the Nirvana explosion, anything and everything from the ’80s underground was getting picked up. Frontman Gibby Haynes‘ lead vocals on the Ministry hit “Jesus Built My Hot Rod” probably didn’t hurt, either.

The band’s first four full-length albums — 1984′s Psychic… Powerless… Another Man’s Sac, 1986′s Rembrandt Pussyhorse, 1987′s Locust Abortion Technician and 1988′s Hairway to Steven — were reissued on vinyl for last fall the first time since their original Touch and Go Records pressings.

Like those re-releases, the Independent Worm Saloon reissue’s not expected to have any bonus material.

Below, check out the video for “Who Was In My Room Last Night?,” a minor alt-rock hit in its own right.

    from an analog master?

  2. I hope this will be a double LP, since it’s over 60 minutes in length.

  3. Plain Recordings better do a decent job on this reissue. They have been robbing people with horrible pressings for too long( listen to their pressing of Mr. Bungle’s Disco Volante and countless others). Absolute shit label. This is a case of “Do you want the good news or bad news first”.

  4. please dont post any vinyl news relating to Plain recordings. They are sourced from cd’s and notorious for poor quality.

  5. Plain is notorious from their HORRIBLE pressings. I will not be buying this reissue.

All of you are correct. Plain Recordings do a lousy job on reissues and I don’t know why bands deal with them. I’m reluctant to purchase this, but I am though through Amazon. If the sound quality sucks, I’ll simply return it.
