Finally. It’s taken more than a year, but college-rock icons The Replacements finally will play a hometown gig this September, as the band has been announced to headline the soon-to-be-razed Midway Stadium in St. Paul, marking both the first Twin Cities appearance by the ‘Mats since 1991 and the first non-festival show for the band since reuniting last summer.
According to Minneapolis City Pages, The Replacements will play the minor-league baseball stadium on Sept. 13, with support acts to be named soon. The ballpark, home to the St. Paul Saints, is slated to be razed not long after the performance. The stadium, when configured for concerts, can pack in about 14,000, as it did last summer for Bob Dylan, according to the City Pages.
Having just followed last year’s three Riot Fest gigs with two Coachella shows this month, The Replacements — Paul Westerberg and Tommy Stinson, plus guitarist David Minehan and drummer Josh Freese — are now slated to perform at five more festivals between May and October.
Ben Perlstein, Stinson’s manager, tells City Pages of landing a hometown show:
“We just had to figure out the right one. It just made so much sense to play in the field of a minor league baseball team right before it gets torn down. It’s going to be the last concert there.”
Tickets for the Midway concert are $50 and go on sale 10 a.m. May 3 through etix.com with a four-ticket limit. Presale passwords are expected through The Replacements’ Facebook page on Monday.

They were a good band but that Westerberg guy is too much of an asshole to keep it together.
