Front 242 to perform in New York, Chicago, Tampa during rare U.S. visit this fall

Front 242

Belgian electronic body music pioneers Front 242 — featuring Jean-Luc De Meyer, Daniel Bressanutti, Patrick Codenys and Richard 23 — will make a rare visit to the United States this September, but are only slated to perform three concerts, with gigs planned in New York City, Tampa, Fla., and Chicago, the latter of which will be part of the Cold Waves Festival.

The poster for the three shows, seen above, refers to a 30-year anniversary, but it’s unclear what that’s referring to, since the band formed in 1981 and released its first album, Geography, from which the poster gets its cover art, in 1982, some 32 years ago.

Front 242 tour dates:

Sept. 24: Irving Plaza, New York, NY
Sept. 25: The Orpheum, Tampa, FL
Sept. 27: Cold Waves Festival, Metro, Chicago, IL

  1. The first time they were in the US, perhaps? the Live in Chicago EP came out in early 1984…

    • No, they have been in the U.S. plenty of times. I have seen them here in Los Angeles at least 3 times. But, it has been about 20 years ago since they were out…

  2. The 30 year anniversary likely coincides with Front 242’s first tour of the US in 1984, which, by the way, was managed by Annik Honore (Ian Curtis’ mistress and co-founder of Factory Benelux/Les Disques du Crepuscule).

  3. I still have my ticket stub from their NYC 1989 show.

[Yikes, that was a long time ago.]

  4. Outside of Chicago, Tampa had one of the biggest industrial scenes in the late 80s/early 90s. No surprise they are coming back to Tampa.

  5. 3 dates? Pathetic

  6. Glory2Babalon

I don’t understand why they can’t do a standard US tour.

  7. Phenomenal live act – worth a road trip.

    • Problem is even with a 6 hour road trip what do people in 90% of the country do, lol? I can’t believe there is not a West Coast date… I mean you’re telling me 242 can move tickets in Tampa – but not LA or SF?

  8. The Orpheum is tiny for a show like this — but I’ll be there!

  9. Wright them via there web site to extend their tour. Won’t hurt.

  10. Sorry. I mean “write”.

  11. Probably the promoters in the USA don’t see a market for these guys. That happens when you don’t tour regularly.

  12. The 30th anniversary refers to their first live US appearances in 1984. Front 242 played Medusa’s in Chicago on 9/28/84 and Danceteria in New York on 10/12/84.

  13. The 30th anniversary of our first USA tour back in September 84. Actually, the fisrt one being on the 28th of September in Chicago, we’ll have a party in Metro on the 28th the days after the day of the show to celebrate.
