Morrissey returned to the road Wednesday night as his U.S. tour opened in San Jose, Calif., with a show that found the former Smiths frontman debuting three new songs off his forthcoming album World Peace Is None Of Your Business during a 20-song set that ended abruptly as Moz was forced to flee the stage as fans mobbed his band.

According to a setlist posted to morrissey-solo.com (see below), Morrissey opened the show with the Smiths classic “Hand in Glove,” then proceeded to sprinkle in a trio of new songs (“World Peace is None of Your Business,” “The Bullfighter Dies” and “Earth is the Loneliest Planet”) during the main set. (He also performed the Smiths’ “Meat is Murder” and “Asleep.”)

As you can see from the video below, however, the show ended rather abruptly during Years of Refusal’s “One Day Goodbye Will Be Farewell,” as fans invaded the stage and Moz was left to flee with his band.

The tour continues tonight in Santa Ana, Calif.

Below, check out the setlist and video of the stage invasion, all three new songs and other highlights from the show. We’ll add more as it surfaces.

Where is the security? Why only at his shows this happens…? Stay of the stage people!!!!

  2. WTF? What gives any “fan” to right to pull this crap? You a-holes in San Jose aren’t “fans.” Thanks for ruining the show for everyone.

  3. What was the Morrissey live video release from 1991 or so–it had the Your Arsenal band lineup but they weren’t playing any songs from that album yet–that ends with a stage invasion during “Everyday Is Like Sunday” and Morrissey has to drop the mic and flee? There’s significant precedent for this, is what I’m saying.

    • Live in Dallas. But that was 23 years ago. Moz is going to turn 55 in a couple of weeks, so you may soon be reading the story of how he had to drop the mic, flee and broke a hip in the process pretty soon!

  4. Ian Christensen

At the tour opener in Phoenix 2002, a stage invader knocked over Boz’s amps during the second song. There was about a 10 minute break while they fixed everything and Morrissey talked to the audience.

  5. San Jose is full of idiots…
Mostof those stage invaders are not really fans, they just want to draw attention to themselves while ruining the show for the rest of the us.

  6. The new songs are brilliant and Asleep was wonderful, same as Hand in Glove with harmonica.

  7. As one of the people in the stands for the San Jose show, I can’t even begin to relay how disgusted I am about how things ended. One person on the stage is cute, and Morrissey seems to accept it more than probably any other artist, but when people start to gang up…well, it turned ugly fast, and people should know better. Extra scorn to the venue, who obviously wasn’t prepared in terms of security.

To go from a transcendent moment (“Asleep”!) to this chaos within two songs was beyond jarring, and I hope that the so-called “fans” who caused this are properly ashamed of themselves. Hopefully their stupidity doesn’t ruin the remainder of the tour for everyone else.

  8. You must one pathetic loser to want to hug Morrissey.

Hey There:) I was at last nights Show and am a Resident of San Jose and, I ASSURE You, San Jose is NOT Full of Idiots!:} LOL!!!!

  10. did spotlight for moz on the maladjusted tour* (’97) and the fans stormed the stage then too, he must be used to this by now

    *the catering was fantastic!

  11. Well, that was their one last chance to hear Moz live in their town. Stay classy.

Wednesday, its just a Testament to the Fact that’s HES STILL GOT IT!!!!!!:).And, That’s a GOOD THING, Right?:) SAN JOSE LOVES YOU MORRISSEY!!!!!!!!!!!:)<3<3<3<3<33

  15. Irony, both Johnny and Moz start off their shows with “hand in glove”.

“World peace is none of yr business” is meant for BONO, in my opinion.

SJ show was brilliant, even though it meant schlepping for 1 hr from sf to get there! The closing was the last song he would ever sing….and this time, there’s no changing his mind.

Given that the following nights set-list is identical, and on “shuffle”, is he expecting that his fans are not touring with him this time? Or does he just not care?

  16. One day I’ll get to see a morrissey show that lasts more than 20-40 minutes. I’m sick of paying $75 for abruptly ending shows and Moz acting like a tosser, literally, tossing gifts fans hand to him back into the audience. Idiots keep off the stage!
