Watch New Order cover ‘San Francisco (Be Sure to Wear Flowers in Your Hair)’ in San Francisco

New Order in San Francisco

New Order has debuted a pair of new songs (“Singularity,” “Plastic”) on tour this year in North and South America, but used the occasion of its concert in San Francisco last night to do something perhaps even more unlikely: follow usual show-closer “Love Will Tear Us Apart” with a cover of ’60s anthem “San Francisco (Be Sure to Wear Flowers in Your Hair).”

As you can see from the video below (via concertkid2) it’s a fairly faithful, rocked-out version of the 1967 Scott McKenzie classic, written by John Phillips of The Mamas & The Papas.

New Order wraps up its short run of North American dates Sunday night in Los Angeles.

  1. Paul Moses

Makes me feel old to remember when I saw them cover “Every Little Counts/Walk on the Wild Side” and “Sister Ray” (at different shows).

  2. It’s nice to see that he has at least one fan now.

  3. Awesome, when are u playing in the UK again!!

  4. We can all be thankful that they didn’t play in San Jose.

  5. I prefer when they didn’t give a shit about the audience, and played what they wanted.

  6. I saw New Order at the Greek in Berkeley (with Echo & the Bunnymen) and at the Shoreline (with PiL and the Sugarcubes). Last night they mailed it in.

    • And PiL stole that entire Monsters of Alternative Rock tour right out from under them.

      • Chronic Mumblings

Digression: John Lydon and PiL really knew how to work an arena. The Sugarcubes and even New Order were amateurs by comparison on that tour.

        • I was 15 when I went to that concert and saw them in Seattle. They were awesome both times! I would agree about him I remember lots of close ups on his nips. New Order didn’t do much but made up for the music…Surprised this go around they didn’t play anything from technique….

  7. Karaoke at its best.

  8. Better than I thought it would be but then again I thought it was going to be total shite.
