Just a quick note for you “Dark Wave” listeners out there: This weekend’s usual Sunday night show is being pre-empted by New Year’s Eve programming on Sirius XM’s 1st Wave, but we’ll be back on the air with the darker side of classic alternative at the usual time in the New Year, starting on Jan. 7.

Fire Records next spring will follow up its collection of the first four albums by The Jazz Butcher, Pat Fish’s long-running U.K. indie-pop outfit, with a new box set called The Violent Years that compiles the next four LPs, all originally released on Creation Records between 1988 and 1991.

R.E.M., Sleater-Kinney members team up to headline benefit shows for Scott McCaughey

A host of musicians — including R.E.M.’s Peter Buck and Mike Mills, as well as Alejandro Escovedo, members of Sleater-Kinney, The Decemberists, Drive-By Truckers and The Shins, and more — will perform two concerts in Portland, Ore., next month to raise money for Scott McCaughey, who suffered a stroke last month.
