New releases: Kitchens of Distinction, Peter Murphy, Marc Almond, Paul Weller and more

Kitchens of Distinction

RELEASE: Watch Our Planet Circle
BACKSTORY: The indiepop act this week releases, in the U.K., a 6-disc box set that collects remastered editions of its first four albums — 1989’s Love is Hell, 1991’s Strange Free World, 1992’s The Death of Cool and 1994’s Cowboys and Aliens — plus a disc of b-sides and another disc of previously unreleased BBC sessions. The set comes in a hard book with a foiled cover, and includes 36 pages of sleeve notes, photos and a full discography.

RELEASE: Bare-Boned and Sacred
BACKSTORY: The ex-Bauhaus frontman this week releases a 12-track live album recorded during last year’s stripped-down tour. Includes solo classics such as “All Night Long” and “A Strange Kind of Love” and a Bauhaus medley.

Marc Almond and Soft Cell

RELEASE: Hits and Pieces: The Best of Marc Almond and Soft Cell
BACKSTORY: This 2-disc, 35-track set collects singles from across Marc Almond’s career, including material from Soft Cell and Marc and the Mambas. Includes “Tainted Love,” “Say Hello Wave Goodbye,” “Tears Run Rings.”

Paul Weller

RELEASE: Jawbone: Music From the Film
BACKSTORY: The former Jam frontman this week releases his first film score, a collection of music for an upcoming British boxing film. The score is being released digitally in the U.S. but is availabale on CD and vinyl in the U.K.

Soundgarden

RELEASE: Ultramega OK
BACKSTORY: The recently reunited grunge legends have completed a long-planned remix of their 1988 debut album, and this week are reissuing the 13-track set with an additoinal six early versions of some album tracks.

Greg Graffin

RELEASE: Millport
BACKSTORY: The Bad Religion frontman this week releases his third solo album, following up 1997’s American Lesion and 2006’s Cold as Clay with a collection of 10 new solo songs, including “Backroads of My Mind.”
