The Cure preparing ‘Greatest Hits,’ ‘Acoustic Hits’ vinyl picture discs for Record Store Day

The Cure appears poised to celebrate this year’s edition of Record Store Day with vinyl picture-disc reissues of 2001’s Greatest Hits and a standalone release of the Acoustic Hits set that was included as a bonus disc in early pressings of the CD version of that best-of set.

As Chain of Flowers notes on Twitter, product listings for the two releases appeared on an Universal Music’s Italian site over the weekend, showing both as double-LP vinyl picture discs tagged as “RSD 2017” releases — and due out April 21, the day before Record Store Day.

The Greatest Hits set was labeled specifically as being remastered.

No formal announcement has been made of any Cure-related Record Store Day releases, and those titles have since been removed from the list of Cure releases included on that Universal Music site. But the Acoustic Hits vinyl release is listed for pre-order on Amazon’s Italian site.

The Cure issued Greatest Hits as a final obligation to Fiction Records, collecting 16 tracks spanning 1979 to 1997, and adding two new songs (“Cut Here” and “Just Say Yes”). As a bonus, Robert Smith and Co. recorded acoustic versions of all 18 songs, enlisting former drummer Boris Williams to play percussion.

  1. They can keep the worthless picture discs but looking forward to the acoustic set for sure. Still baffled as to why a Wish remaster is nowhere on the horizon.

  2. A full show of MTV Unplugged in 1991 would be far better than this. The acoustic songs are actually pretty good, but it’s embarrassing listening to Boris play the triangle while Jason does his awful hip hop drumming. Almost as bad was when Tolhurst played the triangle while Jason did his hip hop drumming during the Reflections tour. What a shame.

Really Robert? How about a NEW ALBUM or even a NEW SINGLE…

  5. well… I happen to think the MTV Unplugged was stronger but I’m sure getting the rights to release that would be problematic.. their show last year was the best show I saw all year.. over three hours.. amazing… live Robert is still on top of his game…Gallup is great too… on record it is almost as if Robert has given up…which is ok.. he’s written enough great stuff

  6. Fuck that noise. That’s all we get Robert? I’ll pass. Yes I’m a spoiled old new wave kid who only wants the good shit.
