New Order will perform five special hometown concerts this summer as part of the Manchester International Festival, teaming up with visual artist Liam Gillick and composer-arranger Joe Duddell for performances that will find the group backed by a 12-member synthesizer ensemble.
Titled New Order + Liam Gillick: So It Goes…, the concerts will take place in the old Granada television studios on June 29 and July 1, 6, 13 and 15. According to the event’s organizers, the performances will feature New Order “deconstructing, rethinking and rebuilding a wealth of material from throughout their career: familiar and obscure, old and new.”
The group will be joined onstage at the five concerts by the synth ensemble from the Royal College of Northern Music, while Gillick “will be transforming the historic Stage 1 into an immersive environment, creating a stage set that reacts dynamically to the music.”

The Manchester dates follow New Order’s appearance in Dubai next month and several U.S. concerts booked around the group’s appearance at Coachella.

I can’t imagine them not filming a chunk of this for a DVD or streaming release. Hope they do, sounds like it could be very cool.
Since a lot of fans won’t be able to make this, I truly hope they record this and put out a DVD or CD. I would definitely buy it.
Sources report, Hooky will do the same thing with an ensemble of 24 players … and write another book about THAT, too.
