Alison Moyet announces new album ‘Other,’ plots huge world tour — hear the title track

Former Yazoo frontwoman Alison Moyet today announced the release of her ninth solo album, titled Other, along with a 58-date worldwide tour that will keep her on the road from September through December, playing North America, the U.K., Europe and Australia.

The album — produced, like its predecessor, 2013’s The Minutes, by Guy Sigsworth — is due out June 16 in CD, vinyl, cassette and digital formats via the Cooking Vinyl label. Moyet is teasing the album with a video for the sparse title track, which you can watch below.

In the announcement for the project, Moyet explains:

“For me, making a record at this age, lyrically, is a different proposition. Observation in most cases replaces emotion. The invisibility of middle/aged woman rather thrills me and instead I watch. Subject matter covers what you might expect from a pop album.  Dyslexia, locked-out syndrome, diversity, Persephone, doggedness and the Internet. Always asked what a song is about, I attempted to cooperate, but in truth though the lyrics incorporated my best attempt to describe what I see and of the meaning that is mine. I want, who chooses to, to find their own landscape or indeed none. Some of us have always felt ‘Other’. I no longer wish it were otherwise.”

Moyet’s tour opens Sept. 11 in Washington, D.C., with the first of a dozen North American dates, followed by eight concerts in Australia and New Zealand in October, then a 24-date run through the U.K. and Ireland, culimating with 14 shows in 10 European nations in December.

Ticket presales begin 10 a.m. March 22; see Moyet’s website for full on-sale information.
