First look at Tones on Tail-heavy setlist from Poptone featuring Daniel Ash, Kevin Haskins

When news first surfaced last month that Daniel Ash and Kevin Haskins have reunited as Poptone to perform the music of their collective back catalog, fans were particularly excited at the prospect of hearing Tones on Tail songs played live — as that band only toured in 1984, and hasn’t reunited like Bauhaus and Love and Rockets have in recent years.

Good news. A source in the Poptone camp gave Slicing Up Eyeballs an exclusive first look at the setlist the band has worked up for its upcoming tour, and it’s heavy — very heavy — on Tones on Tail.

As you can see from the photo of the setlist posted above, the band’s worked up 10 songs by Tones on Tail, along with five Love and Rockets tracks, Bauhaus’ “Slice of Life” and the recent Ash solo cut “Flame On.” (There’s also something listed as “Physical.” Maybe an Adam Ant cover?)

As Poptone, Ash and Haskins will be joined by Haskins’ daughter Diva Dompe, formerly of Blackblack, who plays bass and sings. The group will debut with a pair of shows at a Los Angeles studio later this month, then will begin a U.S. tour with western dates in May and June.

More concerts are expected to be announced.

See those dates — including new shows in Los Angeles, Pomona, Anaheim and Vancouver, B.C. — below.

  1. 10 Tones, 4 Love and 1 Bauhaus, with two unknowns “Flame On” and “Physical”. Maybe it’s Olivia Newton-John.

    • adam whiteside

Flame On is Danny Ash solo, and Physical(You’re So) is definitely Adam Ant cover, as Danny has played it before

  2. This is going to be amazing. I bought my tickets today.

  3. Please come to Montreal been too long

  4. Basically it’s a Tones On Tail reunion, with a few Love and Rockets covers, a Bauhuas song and 2 other random tunes… works for me!

Although the choice of L & R songs isn’t great; Love Me, No Big Deal, Sweet FA… not good. Would rather see The Light, It Could be Sunshine, Yin and Yang…

  5. Physical is most likely the Adam Ant song. Love and Rockets covered it on their Earth Sun Moon tour.

Great setlist… very happy to not see So Alive on it. Uber-excited to see Performance, Twist and Christian Says.

I would still like to see Diva sing Bela, She’s in Parties or Sanity Assassin or even Scopes which would probably fit in with the Tones on Tail songs pretty well.

  6. I would love a Tones on Tail heavy setlist! No Dallas date :(
