‘We are still here!’: X to celebrate band’s 40th anniversary with 32-date U.S. tour

Los Angeles punk legends X will celebrate their 40th anniversary as a band with an impressive 32-date U.S. tour this spring and summer that will bring the group’s original lineup — Exene Cervenka, John Doe, D.J. Bonebrake and Billy Zoon — to cities coast to coast.

The tour opens May 1 in Albuquerque, and the first leg includes 17 dates in May. After a couple shows in July and August, the band opens its second leg Sept. 6 in Las Vegas, and plays 13 more shows.

On X’s website, Cervenka writes this about the tour:

For a long time interviewers and X people we’ve met have asked us did you think when X started you’d still be playing together now? And our answer is surprisingly – No! Of course not! In 1976 I was 20; now I’m 60. How’s that for weird?! DJ Bonebrake, Billy Zoom, John Doe and Exene Cervenka are STILL together! We are still touring, and guess what? We now have Billy Zoom on saxaphone, DJ on vibes! We added another fine musician, Craig Packham to fill in on drums and rhythm guitar to make that happen. Our harmonies are somewhat perfected, our souls are still in tact, and against all odds, maladies and distractions, all the set backs and obstacles- we are still here! Just some friendly advice- you should probably come see us play while you still have the chance. Not that X is going away anytime soon! A couple weeks ago we were in the van coming home from a show, and started talking about this very exciting 40th Anniversary year coming up. Then Billy said: ” That’s nice. What are we doing for our 50th anniversary?” Aren’t you glad X is still around? I am!

This show should not be missed! This is X at its best!! I had tix for all 4 nights at the crocodile cafe in seattle. First night V.I.P tix. Included sound check viewing, they played 4 tracks. Then came down and mingled with crowd, letting us take pics, talking with us etc. Exene was even down on the floor for the opening band (which I can’t remember to save my life) but were an exceptional duo from Tacoma. If you are a true X fan or a younger generation X fan…….
    GO!!! you won’t be sorry!!!

    • Greg, was the band you saw with X called Skating Polly? Exene produced their record “Lost Wonderfuls” and they are AMAZING!

  2. They’re playing the State Theater in Falls Church VA on Sept 23
