Midnight Oil to return to the U.S. in August for ‘final four’ additional concerts

Just two dates into the North American leg of their worldwide reunion tour, Midnight Oil this morning announced the band will return to the U.S. in late August for “a final four special shows” in Los Angeles, New York, Minneapolis and Cleveland.

The Oils already are playing two shows in New York and one in Los Angeles on the current 13-date North American trek, and say the decision to add additional dates at larger venues in those cities (see full dates below) is meant to combat ticket scalping.

The band says:

“This unusual decision to announce return plays in those two cities before the first gigs have even happened is driven by the band’s desire to frustrate scalpers. Rather than paying inflated prices via resellers to attend the imminent May shows, fans now have the option of buying normal tickets to attend these summer dates.”

Minneapolis and Cleveland were not on the original itinerary. It would appear there’s ample room in the band’s schedule for additional U.S. shows in August, but these are being billed as the “final four.”

Ticket pre-sales begin at 10 a.m. local time Tuesday (sign up at midnightoil.com for passwords, which will be sent a half-hour prior). General on-sale is 10 a.m. local time Friday for all four shows.
