Gary Numan is set to release a new studio album titled Savage later this summer, and today he unveiled plans for a 22-date North American tour in support of the record this November and December. Tickets for the shows go on sale this Friday, according to Numan.
The new album, produced by Ade Fenton, was funded in part via Pledge Music and is expected to be released by BMG in August, according to Numan’s website. It will be preceded by the single “My Kind of Ruin,” for which Numan shot a video last week in the 118-degree California desert.
The new album will be Numan’s 21st, and will his first since 2013’s Splinter (Songs From a Broken Mind).
Numan’s tour opens Nov. 15 in San Diego, and runs through Dec. 16 in Austin, Texas. Along the way, he’ll play 18 shows in the U.S. (seven of them in California and Texas), along with four concerts in Canada.

The last time I saw Numan in Austin was at Fun Fun Fun Fest. I skipped Courtney Barnett, even though I hadn’t seen her before and it was sort of her Austin coming out party, to see Numan, who’s blown me away with an afternoon show during SXSW that same year. Imagine my surprise to discover that Numan was lipsynching. Kind of cast a pall on the prospect of seeing any more live Numan shows.
I’ve never been a huge fan of Numan’s but the two shows he has played in Cork over the years (Pavillion, 2009 & Opera House 2015) are two of the greatest concerts i have ever seen.
However, everything he’s done since “Pure” in 2000 tends to blend together in one big meandering dirge, The Pleasure Principle and Telekon are his finest records. I think we know what his next album will sound like and your probably better off just listening to Nine Inch Nails.
Another tour, another miss. I’ve been listening to Gary’s music for close to 40 years and I’ve never been to one of his concerts. Oh, I’ve come close a couple of times, but he manages to avoid every place I’ve lived. Not blaming him, much I wouldn’t want to play Columbus. I don’t like living here. Maybe another time.
