Listen: The Waterboys, ‘If The Answer Is Yeah!’ — first single off new double LP

The Waterboys have debuted the first single off the band’s upcoming double album, an upbeat, 3 1/2-minute track called “If the Answer is Yeah!” that delivers on bandleader Mike Scott’s promise to employ more modern production values and styles in his new music.

The track, which you can stream below, is the first to emerge from the 23-song Out Of All This Blue that will be released Sept. 8 by BMG digitally and on double CD and double vinyl, as well as deluxe triple CD and triple vinyl editions with 11 bonus tracks.

Scott has said his new songs feature “echoes of classic R&B, country, soul and funk … underpinned by modern hip-hop production values and rhythms.”

Check out the new song below.

I was a bit skeptical when I read about this album here several days ago. But since “This is the Sea” and “Fisherman’s Blues” are among my favorite albums from the day (I can still remember playing “This is the Sea” in my dorm room in the mid 80’s when I got back from class and as I waited for the lunch line to thin out in nearby campus cafeteria — but I digress) I’m willing to keep an open mind.

Based on this song I can say I am likely to keep my ears open for more from it. Promising.

Let me also add that I still have the original vinyl copies of both “This Is The Sea” and “Fishermam’s Blues” that I bought back in the day shortly after their original release.

  • Wow. Wow. Wow.
