Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark today released the second official single off the group’s upcoming album The Punishment of Luxury — the title track, which is accompanied by a brand-new animated video that you can watch below. The track follows the release of first single “Isotype” in late May, and the teaser of non-single “La Mitrailleuse.”
The new album — OMD’s first since 2013’s English Electric — is due out Sept. 1 via White Noise Records. The “Punishment of Luxury” single is now available digitally on all download and streaming platforms.
In announcing the new single and video, OMD’s Andy McCluskey says:
“Most people in the Western world are materially better off than their predecessors ever were and yet we are unhappier. Now we have many possessions we don’t need because we’ve been persuaded to buy. This is the punishment of luxury.”
The “Punishment of Luxury” single also will be released on 12-inch vinyl on Oct. 13. It’ll be limited to 1,000 copies worldwide and will include an extended mix of the single and the B-side “Lampe Licht.”
