The Jam’s 40th anniversary to be commemorated with 5-disc ‘1977’ box set

The year of The Jam’s birth — 1977, the year punk broke — will be celebrated this fall with a 40th anniversary 5-disc box set, aptly titled 1977, that will include the band’s first two albums, a disc of demos, a collection of Peel session recordings and live tracks, and a DVD of TV appearances.

The new box set from The Jam — Paul Weller, Rick Buckler and Bruce Foxton — will be released Oct. 20, and will be packaged with an exclusive limited-edition print and a 144-page book with new liner notes and period photos, plus “a wealth of cuttings, reviews and memorabilia from 1977.”

The contents include:

  • Remastered editions of The Jam’s classic debut album In the City and its equally beloved follow-up, This is the Modern World, both of which were released in 1977.
  • A disc of 11 demos made for In the City, six of which are previously unreleased.
  • A live disc that includes two John Peel sessions recorded by the band in 1977 and a previously unreleased, 14-song concert recording from Sept. 10, 1977.
  • A DVD featuring TV appearances by The Jam in 1977 and promo videos.

Check out the full tracklist below; the box set can now be pre-ordered via Virgin/EMI.
