Record Rack: A round-up of the week’s new albums, expanded reissues and/or box sets, appearing each Monday on Slicing Up Eyeballs. All releases due out this Friday unless noted.



RELEASE: Rocket to Russia: 40th Anniversary Deluxe Edition
BACKSTORY: This punk icons’ third album is reissued this week in a 3CD/1LP set that includes two different mixes of the album, a host of unreleased studio recordings and a previously unissued live album recorded in 1977.


The Fall

RELEASE: The Singles: 1978-2016
BACKSTORY: Nearly four decades’ worth of singles — both A-sides and B-sides — by Mark E. Smith’s pioneering post-punk outfit will be collected on a new 7-disc, 117-track box set from Cherry Red Records this week.



RELEASE: Black Sea
BACKSTORY: The audiophile reissue of XTC’s fourth album is due out this week, and will include new 5.1 Surround, stereo and and high-resolution stereo mixes of the record by Steven Wilson, plus demos, instrumentals and videos.

Big Country

RELEASE: We’re Not in Kansas Anymore: Live Bootleg Box Set 1993-1998
BACKSTORY: Cherry Red Records this week releases a 5-disc box set chronicling the Big Country live experience in the ’90s. Includes covers of songs by Blue Oyster Cult, Neil Young and Smokey Robinson & The Miracles.


Richard Hell & The Voidoids

RELEASE: Blank Generation: 40th Anniversary Deluxe Edition
BACKSTORY: Richard Hell’s 1977 debut will receive an expanded 40th anniversary reissue for Record Store Day this Friday, with the original record paired with a disc of previously unreleased studio takes and live tracks

RELEASE: Kick 30
BACKSTORY: The four-disc 30th anniversary reissue of INXS’s 1987 smash is out in the U.S. this week, a few weeks after it arrived in the U.K. Features the remastered original album, two bonus discs of B-sides, demos, rare mixes (some of which weren’t on the previous reissue) and a brand new Dolby Atmos surround mix.   • Picked up the previous two Ramones 40th anniversary sets and felt underwhelmed. I think the price is too much. I would have liked a simple 2 disc set with the new mix and the previously unavailable tracks, not the 3 disc/1LP version. But I am a pinhead so I have already pre-ordered this one and will pick up any others that may come in the future.

    Do want those INXS and Big Country releases as well.
