Echo & The Bunnymen re-record old songs ‘with strings and things attached’ for new LP

Echo & The Bunnymen will release their first new album in four years next May, a collection called The Stars, The Oceans & The Moon that will feature “some of their greatest songs” re-recorded “with strings and things attached” along with a couple brand-new songs.

The band has not yet revealed the tracklist for the new album, which is co-produced by Andy Wright and due out May 18 — and will be the Bunnymen’s first since 2014’s Meteorites. A listing on Amazon for the digital release suggests the album will feature 15 tracks (though it doesn’t identify them).

The Bunnymen — still led by Ian McCulloch and Will Sergeant — currently are taking pre-orders for the new album, to be released in a wide swath of physical formats, including CD, cassette and several different vinyl editions. Fans who pre-order the record will be able to access a pre-sale at 10 a.m. noon on Wednesday for a run of newly announced U.K. concerts in late May and early June. Tickets otherwise go on sale Friday.

Back in June, Echo & The Bunnymen revealed the band had signed to BMG, marking the group’s return to a major label for the first time since the 1990s. On top of that, the band said, in a Facebook post, that it’s “looking forward to sharing future releases very soon.”
