It appears that Mike Joyce and Andy Rourke, the rhythm section of The Smiths, are planning something — a concert? a full tour? — this year with Craig Gannon, the onetime Aztec Camera member who toured with The Smiths as a second guitarist toward the end of the band’s life.
Joyce today began posting images on Facebook and Twitter with the names “Joyce,” “Rourke,” “Gannon,” followed by a combined image — seen below — that reads “Joyce Rourke Gannon” above “Summer 2018.”
No official word, as of yet, as what the three are planning, or what their erstwhile bandmates Morrissey and Johnny Marr think of it. Joyce has been on the outs with Morrissey since an ugly lawsuit over royalties in the 1990s. Rourke has remained close to his childhood friend Marr, even appearing on stage with him.
Morrissey, who had contemplated continuing on with The Smiths following Marr’s 1987 departure, made his solo concert debut backed by Rourke, Joyce and Gannon. The trio also played on Morrissey’s singles “The Last of the Famous International Playboys” and “Interesting Drug.”
We’ll update this post once we learn more.
It would be great if they did a Morrissey cover band, no Smiths. Hah.
Come on, Mozz. A reunion is long overdue and would help restore the legacy you’ve tainted with your many cancellations and bizarre comments to the press in recent years. Take the money and run if you must, but reunite and take over

I say ,moz your life and music is still the best , you never needed these guys your new band is way better with boz and jessie then crooked joyce and rourke and Craig and Johnny quit on you…the hell with them

OMG!! “THE SMITHS” reunion is a must
Rourke, Joyce, and Marr were the trifecta that made The Smiths a great band, and Morrissey WAS the best singer since Elvis Presley; But Morrissey doesn’t sound so great anymore while the band mates keep getting more experienced. They should find a singer and reform the band, call themselves The Smythes.
