Watch: Kristin Hersh and Tanya Donelly reunite onstage for a little ‘Two Step’ in Boston

Former Throwing Muses bandmates — and step-sisters — Kristin Hersh and Tanya Donelly re-teamed on stage in Boston over the weekend, playing three shows together at City Winery. The performances featured separate solo sets each by Donelly and Hersh, plus a joint encore of the Muses’ “Two Step,” the last song on 1991’s The Real Ramona, on at least two of the nights.

Ahead of the shows, which had been rescheduled from last fall, Donelly told The Boston Herald she and Hersh likely would play “Two Step,” as it marked the end of the original Muses lineup.

“That was a real goodbye song, and it makes me cry to this day,” Donelly told the newspaper. “It was written by the whole band together in one room — one of the few times we ever jammed.”

Donelly and Hersh formed the Throwing Muses in the early ’80s while the two were still in high school. Four albums later, Donelly — who also by then was playing in The Breeders with Kim Deal — would leave and form her own band Belly, which has just reunited and recorded a new album.
