Cherry Red Records will celebrate the 30th anniversary of The House of Love’s self-titled debut album on Creation Records — the second of three eponymous releases from the U.K. indie band — with a newly expanded 5CD set featuring a new remastering of the original record.
The new anniversary edition, due out Sept. 28, is actually an expansion of the label’s 3CD reissue of the album that came out in 2012, collecting “the band’s complete Creation recordings from 1987 to 1988.” The original 10-song album is fleshed out with 74 additional tracks, including early demos and mixes, Peel Session recordings and live takes — including 23 unreleased cuts.
The first disc will feature the original album — remastered for the first time from the original quarter-inch tapes, according to Cherry Red — with two extra tracks: demos of “Shine On” and “Christine” originally released on a bonus 7-inch that came with initial copies of the record. Discs 2 and 3 include all of the era’s non-album tracks, with numerous demos and early takes. Disc 4 is a collection of Peel Session recordings, and the fifth disc is a collection of mostly unreleased live tracks.
The set is contained in a hardback book with new liner notes by NME journalist Neil Taylor and interviews with frontman Guy Chadwick and original bassist Chris Groohuizen.
