As promised last monthPeter Murphy will embark on a world tour later this year with ex-bandmate David J to celebrate 40 years of their former band Bauhaus, a tour that will see the duo performing In the Flat Field in full in Australia, New Zealand, Europe and the U.K.

Dubbed “40 Years of Bauhaus Ruby Celebration,” the tour — billed as Peter Murphy featuring David J — will open Oct. 18 in Wellington, N.Z., and run through Dec. 15 in Greece, with more dates to be announced.

David J also is playing two U.K. solo shows — Aug. 25 in London and Aug. 26 in Wellingborough — ahead of the tour with Murphy; see his site for details.

The two ex-bandmates will perform Bauhaus’ 1980 debut album in full each night plus “an extended encore of Bauhaus classics,” according to a tour announcement. They will not be joined by the other half of Bauhaus, Daniel Ash and Kevin Haskins, who currently perform together as Poptone.

It’s not yet known if the duo are planning to bring the tour to the U.S.; Murphy famously has been unable to get a visa to travel here for a thrice-postponed residency in San Francisco.

Murphy also announced that colored-vinyl Bauhaus reissues are due out later this year.

  1. Surprising that David J will tour with Peter Murphy after David’s account in his bio on Peter’s odd and unacceptable diva-like behavior. This screams cash cow.

    • Can’t deny that the dosh is part of the picture but the best of it for me personally is that it is reconciliatory and after our recent festival gig in Mexico there is a very positive spirit abroad. I’m very much into playing this music again!

  2. Thanks David for being so candid! Here’s to hoping you can play these shows in the US if the bureaucratic issues get sorted.

So every five years, Peter is doing his Bauhaus celebration (Mr. Moonlight)…
Glad to see these two getting along and playing the music that made so many happy but why not join forces with Poptone and really make this a celebration for the dosh? Or is that cheque in another five years?
Either way, good on you and hope to catch a gig (PS encore should contain “Black Stone Heart”).

Getting the feeling Peter and David and Poptone are going to be the dueling postpunk versions of Yes.

Ah well, more music to go-’round.

Lovely to hear the honesty of David J. I’m part way through his book at the moment. And yeh, Peter Murphy doesn’t come over the best, however at no time is David malicious or judgemental, more observational about Mr Murphy’s behaviours. But you can’t have light without the dark in any of us, and the diva-esque behaviour of PM helped to make him a great front man. Besides, when I’m enjoying this gig in Manchester, I won’t be giving a stuff about anything else. I last saw them in a basement club in Halifax circa 1983 – Burning from the Inside tour.
