The Cure unveils first touring plans of 2019 with first-ever concerts in South Africa

In the build-up to this year’s festivities celebrating the 40th anniversary of The Cure, bandleader Robert Smith said fans could expect further touring in 2019 — and we now have the first evidence of that, with the announcement that the band will play two dates in South Africa next March.

The Cure has been announced as the headliner of the Rock on the Lawns music festival next year, and will headline a multi-act bill on March 16 in Johannesburg and March 21 in Cape Town. Other acts on the bill include Fokofpolisiekar, Zebra & Giraffe, Karen Zoid, Ard Matthews, Opposite the Others, Hellcats and The Robfather. Tickets go on sale Friday.

The concerts will mark the first time The Cure has ever performed in South Africa.

At the moment, this will be The Cure’s first concert since the massive 40th anniversary show in London’s Hyde Park n July. It’s not clear yet what other touring plans are in the works.

  10. Please come to where I am because I’m not that much of a fan to go to where you are playing.

    • Because everyone can afford outrageously overpriced concert tickets, outrageously overpriced airline tickets, and mostly overpriced hotels, as well as food every day they’re away from home.
